Topping My Plant

Is topping a plant someting that should always be done? What are the pro's & con's of topping? Mine are around 4 1/2ft now and a buddy of mine said I should top em. My site is completely secluded so there's no risk if I let it continue to get taller. I read on another thread that a guy topped his and it seemed to have more bud sites. Is that true. I'm a first time grower and only have two plants. I'm afraid to do anything dramatic if it's not a must. Thanks!

Oh Yea...if I do need to top, how much of the top sprout do I clip?

first off, if your spot is secluded you should put that thing in the ground or at least a bigger pot

topping can be benificial to some strain not so much others, in my exp. typically sativas respond well to multiple toppings while indica's not but its all about knowing b4 hand

and just type in topping to google and you'll get pics on where to top that make it dummy proof,

o i forgot to say that you can top just about any plant once and it'll be cool, but anymore than once, u should know if the plant will respond well before hand imo

I wouldn't top that... It's a bit large. It's better to top when the plant is around 12 inches or less, that way the hormones are being distributed to the lower branches thus creating large colas. If you top it now it'll be pointless. Just read up a bit and do it earlier next time. I do it once the plant is atleast 6 nodes high.

MMmmmmmmm seeing that your in the south and by this time flowering starts two three weeks from now.......i would just keep them as they are..GL

Topping is a good way of increasing your yield.. but i would have started pruning long ago.. next time tho!

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna just leave it as is. And it has been re-potted into a much bigger pot
