If you want to clone it, it’ll most likely end up budding and reverting back to veg once under 18/6. I would personally opt for some easy going LST at this point, seems like a better bet as opposed to topping. Maybe try to bend and tie the plant over a couple days without breaking branches or doing too much defoliation. I would tie a counter string around the base of the plant near the soil, and pull the plant over in the opposite direction. You can train the growing bud sites as you need. This is just my opinion and what I would do, I think you’ll get a really nice cola if you don’t top, and still get a lot of other big bud sites opened up for optimum flower potential

I've checked the rising and setting times and in mid March it becomes 12hrs between the two. Not sure if I'm right in thinking that this is when she'll start to flower?
No idea of the strain I'm afraid. Thanks for the advice, I've read a few things about that method and liked the theory behind it. I might brave it and give it a go.

It depends where you live, but yes, when the daylight hours begin to diminish towards 12/12 your plant will begin the bloom cycle
Hey Homegrown Hero, its been 4weeks of flowering since this post, how many more weeks till it should be chopped?
I'm in NZ, just entering autum. I was thinking two but don't wanna chop too early and lose yield. Or too late either.
Any tips on how to tell? She's looking pretty healthy and going well.
I'm quite excited.

I’m seeing your pics and replies from others, indeed these flowers need more time to fully develop. The flowers look healthy, the plants too. I would check the local almanac listing for “first frost” in your area, and cut a day or two before that. You say you’re entering autumn in NZ... you guys will presumably have a nice autumn? If it starts to rain a lot, I’d recommend using clear poly on 45° angles above your plants. Good luck!
Thanks for the good detailed advice. I will follow up on that. When you say rains a lot are you talking big down pours regularly? Here in nz it is very unpredictable but luckily bad weather never seems to last long.
My leaves have gone very yellow because of my over watering for a week or so. Just started using the hose without thinking and flooded the pot several days in a row.
I've gone back to the watering can now and added some blood and bone to raise the nitrogen.
Do you have any other advice and will the plant and flowers be okay?

Yes I’m talking about torrential downpours. If you’re getting random patches of rain it’s nothing to worry about. Regarding the yellowing, I wouldn’t be too concerned about trying to fix that. At the end of a flowering plant’s cycle it’ll turn yellow, red, purple... just keep focused on feeding it bloom nutrients, taper off feedings towards the end. Good luck, sorry for the late response

My friend told me to dry upside down for ten days. Should I hang each stem or the whole plant and whats the ideal room temperature for drying?
I'm also interested in the curing process although I'm not entirely sure on what that does, just read a bit about it a long time ago.
We cut the very bottom stems of yesterday, just 3 or4 small ones , thought I could test run this part of the process and have a cheeky sample at the same time.

Ten days isn’t a good estimate, although in the ballpark... you wanna monitor RH (relative humidity) until 35% and put in jars afterwards. If you wanna cure (which I don’t recommend), 65% RH and then jars, burping once per day, allowing to air out for 15 mins at a time. I find if the flower is really terpy, it’ll actually lose terps after being cured. OG kush strains have always tasted and smelled better to me uncured. It’s a matter of opinion. As for the early flowers you cut, there’s a good way to know when they’re ready. If the stem snaps when you fully bend it, it’s ready to try. What strain is this again? Good luck!
Okay, thanks for that. Sounds like curing may be a bit too risky for ne to try right now, so glad I asked and you enlightened me. So how do I monitor the RH of the buds? And is just regular room temp okay?
Unfortunately I used pruning scissors already as not to stress the plant. I'll try the snapping theory on one more in a week or two.
No idea on the strain just a seed from some weed we had ages ago. In your opinion is my plant sativa or indica? I'm thinking indica.
Whats your understanding of the different highs/effects between the two out of interest?

Please don’t try snapping branches on your plant! I’m talking about when your branches are drying out (after you harvest), you can test to see if they snap. If they snap, your weed is ready to smoke. Your plant looks like a hybrid, but I really can’t tell. I prefer indica and indica hybrid myself, but I’ll smoke anything if it’s special and grown with care!

You can monitor RH with a hydrometer, you can find these at the hardware store. They’re usually a thermometer / hydrometer combo, found at the hardware store for about $10-$20
