Topping has doubled my yield

how many plants are you growing under those lights? 7 grams is way too little even for that light. You could grow one big(ish) plant under that 75w hps and your cfls and I guarantee you'd get way more than 7 grams. It sounds like you're trying to get too many plants from too little light, causing low yeilds.

what's your lumen/square foot ratio?

congrats on improving, that is certainly a plus, but I think you're still underperforming, even with the meager lighting.
I normally flower 5 plants under those lights . I used to flower under CFL's and did'nt produce much but have improved 2x under that 75 watt HPS. Maybe that's my problem

I usually flower 4 plants under 660w of cfl and 4' tubes and average 1oz per plant topped. I have 7 plants stuffed in there right now and still seem to be on the same track.

Just keep the lights close--maybe try to position them so they provide coverage to more plants. Hang the cfl's between the plants to maximize light coverage.

Or get some more. In fact, you should probably do both. You can get sockets that plug into an outlet and throw in a few y splitters and a box of four 26w 2700k cfls and boom you've got a cheap fixture for $20. 4 26w cfls give 1600 lumens each=6400 lumens. It's cheap and would probably help.

CFL for veg and I normally veg for 4-6 weeks. Flower is a 75 watt HPS (I know it's low watt the closet get's hot and am still experimenting).I Also use 4- 43 watt soft white CFL's.
if you are growing 5 plants and getting a quarter off em, there is big room for improvement. even if you get .5 grams per watt you should be getting 125 grams from those 5 plants so closer to 25 grams/just short of an ounce per plant with that amount of light..

So what do you suggest I do? I've tried everything, and my best under these conditions are 1/2 ounce while topping without I average just over 1/4. It's a small closet2 foot by 2 foot and I flower in 8 inch pots, maybe they are too small but I see others on here getting bigger results. Any input from the community is much appreciatedkiss-ass:confused:

Surely bigger pots will improve your take. 3-5 gals? There are squat pots if you look around. Maybe via horticulture specific sites.

My question on this topic is How many times can and should you top a plant? Is more better?

all indoors were vegged under 400 watt m/h
flowered with cfls and 400 watt hps
outdoors looking at a 3-4 ounce yeild
big ones are 100% sativas
yield of 3 ounces about each

temps run 65-79 degrees,
fox farm nutrients and mollases

I know that the rule is 5gal pots are best, but i've heard of people growing big plants with 8 inch pots. Maybe I can squeeze 3 three gal pots in there instead of 5- 8inch pots and increase root structure.

What does everyone else yield (actually) Because other than bigger lights i think i'm doing everything right
Lights are only about 1/3 of it. A truly high harvest will come from 1.) good lights, 2.) good nutrient regiment, and 3.) proper ventilation/environment. Your plants will only be as good as the weakest component.
