grave digging a little here.

Going to try the crockpot+coconut oil on low. Half ounce with a few grams of keif, following subbie for the rest of it. I wonder if i mint and eucalyptus would make a good combo. Question is on how long to use it in the crockpot though? If this works im going to try the 30day soak too, think 12+hours will be too much in the crockpot?

Excited, thinking about having a pain free day. Plus my partner is going to try it on her stomach during her cramps.

Thanks Subbie for all the info, I will def try your recipe.

I have been using the glycerine tincture on my injuries and I have to experiment some more with it but it seems to work. The only downside is it's a bit sticky ... so if you were to use it on your feet you would have to wear sox when going to bed that's for sure!

Glad I could help. The end product isnt production quality, but at least it's pure without stabilizers etc.

Is there any type of store i should be looking for to get coconut oil, shea, bee's wax. Im going to try some health stores and such but i figure there should be a store that sells all this plus essential oils.

12 hours is way too long in a crockpot on low......3-4 hours is plenty......too long, and it will turn brown and take on a scorched aroma....

For the Shea butter, beeswax, etc, try a health food store (if they have a cosmetics section). I got all my supplies from Berkeley Bowl (a giant hippy style grocery store in Berkeley, CA). I'm sure it's all available online for lower prices than I paid, but I'd rather keep my money local, if possible.

I agree. Coconut oil has a crazy high fat content, so it should have no problem extracting all the goodies in 3-5 hours. I did 5 hours on low and it worked great.

Thanks guys. Ill try 4 hours and see how it comes out. Time to start calling some stores.

Would there be any difference in using a dom sativa to a dom indica? obviously the cannabinoids would differ but would there be a different effect. sorry if that doesnt make much sense.

Thanks nugs!(subbie, spicysativa and whoever else has posted) i went to my local co-op natural food store and got the best service i have had in years! The prices were a bit steep but the same markup one could expect on anything organic. So i got some great coconut oil i have sitting in warm water, half ounce and a few grams of keif in the oven decarbing at 230 for 30mins (old oven). The choices on shea were a bit slim for anything not in huge amounts but i got the best raw unrefined they had. I have placed a order online for the brands you have subbie and trying the 30days when it gets here.

They had large blocks of bee's wax but it was rather expensive so i opted for the 100% beeswax candles, think ill have any problems?
How many drops of peppermint should i add? its strong smelling so i think 2 will be enough.
Should the oil bubble at all when its on low in the crockpot? anything i should make sure to watch out for so i dont ruin it?

Newbie experiences are the best, thanks a ton all!

If you like the coconut oil they have specials all the time, ie buy one get one free so get on the newsletter and wait for the promo/size u want. As for the bee's wax candle, I havnt a clue if its the same.

So when you making the balm the key is just to melt the ingredients and off the heat it goes into the mixer. Low heat to get it to liquid. If you dont melt down the shea it can be gritty when whipped.

From what I can tell you cant over whip the mixture so whip it until its light and smooth, it will take a bit of time 20-30 mins ish to get the melted ingredients back to solid. Once you like the texture, put it into air tight containers/tins (whatever) and put it in the fridge.

Let us know how it comes out.

Whee everything is done! just letting it set up now.

Just before i started all this i got a metal and plastic bowl, the plastic bowl being slightly bigger. I filled the plastic bowl half full with water and placed the metal bowl inside of it and put a small glass bowl inside the metal bowl to weigh it down. The metal bowl was surrounded by water 3/4 the way up. Into the freezer it goes.

So i chopped the herb into pieces the size of a dime. Placed it in a Pyrex pan and decarbed it at 230 for just over 30minutes, didnt open the oven at all. Placed the herb into my crockpot set to low. I used a square metal handle with a big flat tip to crush it and then poured in my melted coconut oil (jar in hotwater in the sink) into the crockpot as well. I then got my keif and decarbed it for 15minutes and put that in there as well. After 5hours on low with occasional stirring i chopped up my bee's wax and added it as well as the Shea butter. That took about 5minutes to melt and after a few good stirs i strained it with a metal mesh into my metal/plastic frozen bowl. As it hit the cold metal it got solid pretty quick so i started whipping it with a small whisk. Added a couple drops of peppermint, i didnt do enough so i might reliquifi it and add more. It started to look like some darker yellow vaseline and spooned it into one large jar and a few tiny jars for travel/friend. Im stirring it once in awhile as it sets up just so its not as solid.

Ive put a bit on myself and in about 30 minutes i find im a bit looser and i feel like i can feel something like a high but i also wonder if its a placebo. So the question is does this stuff give you a high? I have a friend in her 60's who is starting to get arthritis in her arms and hands and shes getting depressed because her family has crippling arthritis, i figured i would give her some of this to try. But i need to know if i can say "hey, start small this will give you a buzz" or "go nuts, it takes a bunch of this to feel much". I know potency will differ somewhat but its a half o of some decent weed and a bit of keif.

I personally have never gotten a buzz, and I've slathered a good deal on to test for just that. I'd be curious if anyone else has gotten a buzz from it.

Btw u don't have to melt it down again to add more scent. Just get it to room temp and whip away, then back in the fridge.

Oh good i was a little worried myself because i didnt want to put too much on and regret it as well. Ive been smoking today so ill do a tester in the morning with a big rub on my wrists/other side of my elbow(where the take blood from between your bicepts and forearm, cant think of what its called). Ive done a self massage on some parts of me and swelling has gone down a lot and pain is a lot less noticeable then if i had smoked a few bowls. A huge thanks again to you all, the product created has far exceeded what i was looking for already and its only my first day of using it.

Now i want some cheesequake to try this with.

I don't get a buzz (in my dome) from it, but when I rub it on my hands, feet, etc, I can definitely feel it. As if it increases curculation and relaxes my muscles. I know it is a vasodilator, but not sure whether it penetrates deep enough for that affect. I sometimes apply it liberally to the insides of my wrists, where the skin is thin and there is a lot of blood flowing by. Seems to relax my hands after sitting at a 'puter for an 8 hour day...

great thread guys and gals!.........

i have to say, i don't get a buzz from mine either, and i swim in the stuff....but it is definately helping my poor circulation in my hands and wrists, and kills the pain for a couple hours......but what i like the most about it is the vasodiolation .....it turns my hands nice and red and warm, and it feels oh so good!

Hi. I didn't read everyone's post but I did see the first few pages. I have been playing with different potions (as I call em) for 3 years now using cannabis topically in one way or another, salve, oil, butter, as well as these things with other herbs. It's my hobby. I have been telling a few people how amazing it makes you feel to be drenched in an oil or butter infused with cannabis...has to be soaking into the skin for a while to work good, so no clothes! lol. it does work. but I have found that making the oil first (cannabis oil extract) is the best idea then mix it into whatever. That way you can put it into whatever carrier you like best, or recipe. some recipes go bad quick so you wouldn't want to waste any extract. shea butter is best for what you want because it is a natural anti-inflammatory anyway. raw shea butter. ebay. and grape seed oil is at the grocery and soaks into the skin quickly with no greasy feel. I have made some amazing things with cannabis extract! get your extract, mix a carrier oil, put plastic on the feet and cover that with the socks...for hours.

when I am cooking it into an oil, my hands are touching it continually and my heart rate goes thru the roof! I can hardly stand it. I don't use gloves on purpose though, I like it!
