Top Sides of Plants?

I am in the unfortunate situation where I need to stop the side growth of plants. The plants are growing too big(too bushy, wide) for my closet and it wont be another 3-4 weeks before I can move them to a better location.

Can I top(cut the side branches) the sides of the plants to stop the plants from growing too bushy? If yes how many branches( or stems ) can I cut at a time before hurting the plant too much?( My friend suggested to top 4 branches at a time...)

As you can see from the picture my plants are way too big for the current setup, they still have another foot to spare vertically but I there is no more space for them to grow more side branches.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

As long as your plants are still in a vegetative state, it is safe to manicure/crop branches for space-conserving issues. Doing so during a flowering stage will most likely decrease your yeild.

If you plan on flowering the big plant, go through and strip off all the lower branches and leaves, so that nothing but the stem remains, and leave the top nodes and foliage that are exposed to light growing. This will promote air-flow through your canopy and decrease your pest and mold issues.

To answer your ? about how many cuttings you can take...as many as you want. Just remember every cutting you take, you're going to now have 2 heads growing back instead of just one. So even though you are trimming, the lady will continue to eventually get bushier. You just might be buying yourself time.

But however many clones you take, won't really affect the plant as long as it is healthy.
