Top not working?

A week ago I topped my plant and put it into an Ezcloner. The clone has grown roots. But where I cut nothing has happened, but turns dry and brownish.

nothings supposed to happen to the main stalk when you top.

when you top the main stalk is supposed to just stop growth and instead of sending all the hormones straight up they go to the top then to the closest stalks to make the closest stalks the new main stalks

but remember you dont want to top it too much cause then youll just be splitting up the hormones all over and instead of a couple of big main colas youll just have a bunch of smaller main colas
