Low branches are getting buried in the pot when top dressing. Is it okay to do so or is it harmful to the branch? Thanks

What are you top dressing with? I just use dry amendments these days but that usually equates to a cup of dry mix, not nearly enough to cover lower branches.
My advice would be to make a sort of well in the soil around the base of the plant so as to uncover those branches
