Downloading is *Piracy*, according to the supreme human leaders that make rules for us. However IMO, if program writers are pissed off that every program has been cracked already, then why not go get a job for microsoft? hehehe I have yet to see a good hacker break Office 2010... that one is a bitch. Only activates for 6 month then needs re activation

i'm not sure how i feel on this one.. on one hand, if they didn't charge soo damn much for music or a movie, there would be no need to steal it to begin with.. on the other hand, how would i feel if i worked hard only to have someone come along and simply steal what i had worked so hard at?? it's one of those things that really has me torn conscious wise, and that doesn't happen very often nowadays for me..

well lets look at it in the case of a band. I write music, I get signed to a label, we sign contract. I record my music on their dime. They press it and release it. I got my pay day already, it's now up to them to make sales, and its up to me to tour and get the word out.

I'm losing nothing in the process, the record company and its share holders are. This is why lars from metallica is such a fool.

It's the same for the actors in a movie, they get paid however well the movie sells or not.

if anything, when it comes to music, this is only a huge form of advertisement. Think of the vast amount of people who after downloading an album, will now go to concerts, and buy band merchandise.

as I think about it though, the less albums sold....the less albums put out. That is, if I dont sell enough albums, I will be dropped from the record label.

I have stupid amounts of music on my pc from torrent, but I'd say I own 60% of everything I've ever downloaded.

yah, that is another point as well lambofgod.. not even to mention the things like all of the stores like tower records that have gone under because of the lack of record sales in the last ten or so years over the downloading and stealing of music..
and your point is a good one too.. i know that a lot of record contracts have to do with the number of records sold, and if everyone is simply stealing the music and no one buying it, sooner or later bands will be dropped by their record companies.
so in all reality, it's not just the big business record industry people and movie industry people who are losing out over this.. you had said earlier that actors(actresses) get paid up front regardless of how well a movie sells.. but at the same time, if their movie doesn't sell well in the box office, the price that they can then demand for any future deals is surely going to decrease substantially no doubt..

excellent point race! As I was reading your post, I knew that line was coming sooner or later.

And some stuff just can't be found on DVD, or even VHS. So I'll just download it.
exactly! I've got stuff you couldn't find on the deepest parts of the web. As I said earlier, I do own half or a little more of the stuff I have downloaded. All my favorite bands I fully support, as I dont want to see them go indie on their own labels.....means less live shows.

yeah 5 oclock tomorrow
I heard 6pm.....but is that est. central pacific?

you lose royalties when nobody buys the record or movie raises the costand to compensate they raise the cost more people torrent it and boom its no longer worth it i do download stuff but its mostly things that are already on tv i kinda veiw it as watching tv without the commercials usually watch movies at the theater i tend to not watch things more then 1 time kinda looking forward to a time when i can just pay so much a month and be able to watch anything at any time i guess like netflix or hulu i dont even think you can get hulu up here and the canadian netflix is shit to my understanding at this point

I think thats kind of hit or miss. Take Micheal Jackson for instance, He owned/owns (idk cause hes dead) all the rights to anything the Beatles have ever done.....he wasnt losing a dime over torrents involving beatles music.

As for the shows, yes I download tv series quite often....that are already on tv (as you stated).....but still they sell them at your local walmart.
