To spray or not to spray? (leaves)

when the plant has produced its cotyledon leaves it is able to begin photosynthesis and misting is no longer effective. You want the plant to obtain most of its water via the root system, misting your plants has been said to lead to poor root growth.
Could you provide credible info that misting leads to poor root development?

One of the reasons I mist is to boost the humidity, my room tends to be dry in the upper 20s to low 30s. And if I put a good mist on I can get it toward 50 for a few hours.

I grow a lot of plants other than weed, flowers, veg garden, houseplants, I spray them all. Any inside plant needs a good hosing every couple months just to get dust off the leaves which reduces the photosynthetic potential. Maybe I just have a dusty house.

And think about this, in nature plants get heavily dosed w/water every rain, and here in the midwest we get this phonomona called Dew that basically has the vegetation dripping wet every morning. They are obviously well adapted and appreciate a bath now and then.
