Well im about to start a new closet grow with a amnesia lemon seed. With winter coming i was wondering how i can combat the cold during the night period? Im not worried about the day period due to the heat from the lights but what can i do about the night? I lined my closet with 1" foil faced foam insulation to help plus its highly reflective but i dont think that will be enough. any other ideas?

Mate i grow in the roof, or attic if your from the U.S.. I had major issues last year due to the cold. This year however i have it sorted. I bought a small heater, one that just heats up and doesn't blow hot air if you know what i mean. It has a thermostat on it so it keeps a constant 24c, and when the light is on which is at night because thats when its the coldest i simply turn it down and my temps never go any higher than 30c.. This is the best grow i have done to date, with 6 big healthy plants.. One thing that i think is the most important when growing is a constant temp.

Give it a go and good luck.

I grow in a HID cab 3x3x3 thats outside in my shed. I also grew under my house last winter in a 2x1x2 micro cfl box under my house last winter.

Heres what im doing.

Make sure the room/ box is sealed to keep the heat in. Boxes seal good an are stealth so i use em.
Keep adding lights to get your temps up. CFLs put out quite a bit of heat
Cover the grow box with tarps so when you open it you dont let all the heat escape an helps insulate it
When it gets realy freezing you block exhaust cpu fan.
Add a space heater.
Add a DIY CO2 yeast generator to make sure the plants get enough to breath.

SMAll BOXES ARE HELLA TOUCHY WHEN YOU ADD LIGHTS, AN SEAL EXHAUST YOU GOT TO GO CHECK YOUR TEMPS EVERY HOUR FOR AWHILE TO MAKE SURE ITS NOT GETTING TO HOT OR COLD.

The micro box ran 85 in the 20s in January with just heat from the 200w CFL. It was for autoflowers an i left the lights on 24x7. First i added the tarp an Had to run extra bulbs a night to keep it level. Then it got to where i could run all the light all the time cause of the temps. So i blocked my cpu fan off an cut my lights back 1/3 an it was great with no space heater lol.

This year i got 175wMH an a 150HPS going together sealed with glass in the top 6in of my box, its about 120' up there an it shoud make enough heat to heat my shed most the winter, then ill pull the glass to let that air mix with my grow chamber. If that dont get it ill shut off (or add a thermostat) to my exhaust fan to get temps up. And as a last resort ill put a space heater in there.

If you check your temps alot an have a thermomiter with a memory of the high an lows its pretty easy. Watch your temps close after each adjustment.

Good luck OUTDOOR WINTER GROWERS!

Thanks for the tip, thats my best idea yet but the problem then is the closet is 2'x3'x8'. I wouldnt want to put a heater in that small of an area. I could put it in the connected bedroom and turn it up but the back wall of the closet is an exterior wall so would it still be efficient?

Simply use a space heater. They have thermostats and with lights off, you aren't pulling too much through the wiring. They have thermostats, put it low and experiment. Lowe's has some as low as $20. Just make sure your humidity doesn't get too low.

It woud loose a lil heat but the space heater could handel it pretty easy since you insulated. I got a Ceramic space heater that only measues 6x6 in picked out lol.

any space heater draws alot electricity . Heat from a lamp is more efficent . I was thinking somthing like a light socket mounted inside an insulated heat shielded box with two 4 in hubs . and just blow through it at low velocity .

where i live even the days can be damn cold lol. I meant the night period as when the lights are off. I prefer to have my lights on during the day and off at night that way i can do my thing during the day. If they are sleeping when i am (especially my girl lol) then i wont have to worry about any light getting to them some how during flowering.
