lately i've been seeing these tiny fruitfly type bugs on the top of the soil all around the pot,if i mist it with water more show up than before (i'm assuming cause they dont want to drown under the soil aha) they dont seem to be doing anything negative, but i want to make sure, any ideas ?

Get a hot shots no pest strip ($6-7) and hang it in your garden. Don't water as much and make sure your fans are blowing over your plants. I would also get some neem oil for good measure, but the no pest strip worked best for me. There are other solutions but these are the ones I used.

they can harm roots, but they never visibly harmed my plants when i had em
there are a lot of different treatments
the yellow pest strips catch the adults but don't stop the 6-week life cycle 'cause the eggs are in the soil
don't overwater
a layer of sand (1") on top of your soil will prevent the eggs from maturing
little bowls of vinegar placed around your grow will attract and drown the adult flies

+1 ... Did everything here when I had a gnat problem. If you don't have vinegar handy, a beer will do just fine as a replacement. To prevent this from happening, you can microwave your soil to sort of sterilize it. Good luck with your endeavor sir.

You just answered my problem. I have this same issue, and have only recently noticed these little cocksuckers and I am in day 26 of flower!! I have a hydro setup and you are correct I noticed I always see them right away in the morning and always at the base of the plant like they come out of the hydroton. This concludes that your theory about the eggs being in the soil, or under the plant, is true!

While I was building my new setup, I drank some beers and fuckin A I forgot a couple on my grow table in the back (empty's) I am guess that those bastards smelled that beer and moved in on my shit those cans were chillin for like two weeks.. fuck...I gotta kill these little bastards!! AHHH!
