Tinkering with COBs

Hello folks,

Been lurking here for a while, just wanted to give a shout out to all the helpful members here, I've learned alot over the past while, especially when it comes to LEDs and such.

So I've decided to make myself up a fixture by using some of the stellar examples here, and being a techie and a tinkerer, I'm always looking for ways to help with my efficiency. Or laziness is another way of putting it :blsmoke:

I was thinking of playing around with a way to make the fixture a bit 'smarter'. To start, maybe be able to turn the fixture on/off remotely, possibly allowing for programming on/off schedules, and perhaps dimming. Longer term maybe even monitoring temperature and power consumption among other things.

My question to you seasoned pros is how much of the above would you find valuable? Any other ideas you might like to see? If it turns out nice and I don't blow things up, I'd be happy to share my progress :peace:

Cheers gang, looking forward to some green hacking!

Cool man, we've hacked some LED in the past and have been able to control a few things. I just learned of the whole COB movement not too long ago, and the stuff I'm seeing here is very similar. I'd be more than happy to share.

My bro is a bit of an aquarium junkie, he has these multicolor panels for his tanks which have wifi and can be controlled from the network. They never really worked all that well (China), so we messed with the controller and figured out the commands that were being sent. After that we were able to send commands from his laptop on the fly to turn certain colors on or off, adjust brightness and stuff like that. When I first started seeing these COB fixtures, I was like man these look similar. So I thought why not give it a shot. Doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion on this type of thing, so maybe there isn't a need for it, but what the heck lol.

Whoa there, I think you've been lurking in the wrong place! You should check the LED subforum for all the info you could imagine on COB lighting ;)

Just posting a quick update for the folks who were interested - unfortunately no news yet, I haven't been able to get my hands on the correct hardware as of yet. Working on getting a demo fixture or something, so stay tuned!
