oh BUTT theyre doing so well!!??? LmAOROTFF:razz::weed::hump::clap:

Tilray Inc. is laying off about 10 per cent of its workforce as the Canadian cannabis producer looks to cut costs across its global operations in an effort to become profitable.

“Tilray restructured its global organization to meet the needs of the current industry environment and for continued growth in 2020 and beyond,” said Brendan Kennedy, Tilray’s chief executive officer, in an emailed statement to BNN Bloomberg.

“These changes include an approximately 10 per cent reduction in staff. By reducing headcount and cost, Tilray will be better positioned to achieve profitability and be one of the clear winners in the cannabis industry, which will drive value for our investor and employee shareholders.”

Tilray has approximately 1,443 staff globally, which includes employees in Canada, Germany, Portugal, Ireland, the United States, Australia and Czech Republic, according to Chrissy Roebuck, a company spokesperson. The layoffs include less than 35 people in Tilray’s Toronto office, Roebuck added.

“The tough decision to eliminate roles has not been taken lightly. We’re extremely grateful to our past and current employees for their contributions,” Kennedy said in the emailed statement.

One of the affected Tilray staff members, who declined to be named as they were not authorized to speak publicly, said that a Tilray employee was asked to purchase about 40 banker’s boxes early Tuesday ahead of a staff meeting in Toronto where the layoffs were announced. Most of the Toronto layoffs were focused on Tilray’s marketing and creative departments, according to the person.

Like many of its Canadian cannabis producer peers, Tilray has suffered from lower-than-expected revenues amid an oversupplied market and sluggish rollout of retail stores across the country.

In November, Tilray reported a third quarter net loss of US$35.7 million on US$51.1 million in revenue. Sales of recreational cannabis in Canada were US$15.8 million in the quarter, up just US$700,000 from the prior three-month period, the company said. The company attributed its losses to higher operating expenses and the expansion of its international businesses.

In an appearance on Bloomberg TV last month, Kennedy stated that it is “early days” in a growth industry and that expectations were “lofty” a year ago with more realistic valuations seen today.

"When I look at the industry, I think that markets tend to massively overestimate short-term opportunities and massively underestimate the long term opportunities," Kennedy said. “When I look at the cannabis industry globally, I tell our investors, our shareholders, our employees every day that this is ‘Day One.’”

Yes yes nothing to do with legal weed costing 5-10x+ more than the gray market. Ohh but here's the kicker if the lower the price to compete with the gray market there wont be enough profits to sustain these monsters anyways LOL

And...let’s not forget, the legacy market can lower their prices even further IF competition from LP’s ever became an issue (it won’t).

I've done a small study. Most of my excisting customer can still do it at $700/lb Hell they were going it at $500/lb at the MMAR crash when everyone and their mom had a license. I know as I was picking up LB for $500 for low trips. Was a crazy time. $32 OZ and end user getting them for $90 almost $50 profit LOL

At $700/lb for low trips + we get the US coming in here and taking it all.

when a company charges 1000's of percent in mark up to "feed the greed" and then lay's off 10 percent of the work force...it shows their true colors ....
they should be able to float those employee's thru a slow time or down turn....
The true pirate comes out of these guys.....and their business model...
Boycott privateer.... and their one for us and one for us... policy (all for one and one for all for others)

Maybe someone knows about the grading of product, but I'm perplexed because I've had "quads" from grey market dispos (I didn't buy them) that were b grade flavor, effect and overall quality. Maybe it's because my buds never see plastic bags or containers, always glass for storage and curing, but almost everything that I've smoked from dispos has been bland in flavor/smell and lacking that punch I'm used to. I'm not saying it's bad product, I just don't see much of a difference in what is called low trips, high trips, or quads.

...or maybe I'm a self admitted weed snob that rarely smokes anything that I don't know the source of, and grades are irrelevant.

IMO Burt it's like many things in life. It's all a matter of opinion. Certain steaks are better than others as well but yet look at the variety on those.
When it comes to weed I rarely offer an opinion. Personally I enjoy some variety. And sometimes then of course you run into a few you careless for than others. I've found folks who like to buy pounds at a time enjoy a 4 pack type thing. I see some of the local delivery guys around me provide an ounce divided into 4 types on their menu. One guy is offering QP's in 4 units.

Yup, I'm on the variety train as well. I rarely grow any less than 4 or 5 different strains at a time. The best part of growing for me is picking what I want and growing it out, usually shit nobody around here has.
