I've been told that current research is inconclusive as to how LSD specifically impacts the central nervous system (for that very reason one should be cautious about use and overuse and abuse), but apparently the studies have shown that LSD mimics serotonin (doesn't alter nor enhance). When a drug mimics a chemical in the brain, the body begins to rely on the drug, after prolonged use. Over time, the person believes the drug is required to function normally.
If you are self medicating, there are much better and safer alternatives.
