Thoughts after watching a Documentary

So I've seen people mention this site on here every once in awhile (http://blip.tv/file/1356143/), so I decided I would watch it tonight. Rolled a couple joints and watched it expecting it to present Marijuana in a slightly positive light. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that the people who made it are for the production and use of Marijuana and therefore I only watched it with the idea of marijuana propaganda in mind. However, despite this mindset, the amount of information provided from every aspect of Marijuana use, from medical, potential risks (or lack there of), connection to other drugs, etc was amazing and informative to me (cut me some slack if I'm late on this, still in school and relatively sheltered from the "Marijuana Culture" and its benefits).

One of the last questions asked in the video was obviously "Do you see Marijuana becoming legal?" Almost every Harvard Doctor, Chief of Police, Lawyer, etc said yes, but only after people have become more educated about this topic.
What I would like to ask is:
With the amount of support, airtime (From documentaries on Nat Geo and soon to be MSNBC and whatever else is out there), our need for more jobs, our need for a more reliable source of fuel, our need to cut government spending, and new leadership in America, how large of a step do ya'll believe we are taking at this time period to doing something that should have been done decades ago - legalizing? I'm not asking if you think we will legalize it in a set amount of time, I'm just asking, how large of a step will these next few years be in the right direction?

Thanks as always for your thoughts. :weed:

We are only supposedly getting decrim according to Obama.

Unless a major miracle happens I see more and more med states coming on line and after a few years have past some states may legalize and perhaps in 10-20 years it will be fully legal and regulated everywhere here.

There are too many industries etc that will fight it and most of the public is ignorant. I have never seen that documentary aired in the US, maybe it has been and I just didn't notice.

Anyway so far that one is the most positive.

I hope I am wrong, but there are just so many against it for ignorant or greedy reasons... And politicians would have to basically do an about face and look like complete dumbshits since they fought this so hard so long and then have to admit they were wrong about everything...

You are asking for a lot.

Maybe cali will have it legal for everyone in the next few years if the feds get the hell out of it.

Not until all police agencies are forbad to reap any financial benifit from seizure laws will we see any decline in the attitute twords marijuana, nor will we see honest news reporting.

Too many police agencies are milking the cash cow of seizure laws to loosen their stranglehold on these laws,i know of atleast one drug task force in my state that is 100% funded from the proceeds/sale of goods & properties seized in their swat style raids, its common pratice.

Not until the public puts a stop to the big business that police agencies have turned seizures into will we see any real change.

Sooooo, never? ;-)

I asked the question earlier because to me it almost seems like the best way of pursuing the decriminalization/regulation of Marijuana is education. Lobbying, wealthy big businesses will always exist and there will never be a way of taking them down, in my opinion. It seems like the only hope is honestly just education of the masses. If everyone could just see the benefits of it, and then have them actually soak the information up instead of rejecting it based on their past perceptions, I believe we would be in a better position to talk.
The sad part is, although this sounds easy it's also nearly impossible. I mean, come on, educating Americans on something that is simple... that works :wall: (I am American, I would never bash another Country's citizens). People would rather fall back on what they have been told, rather than researching things themselves, and to me that is sad.
