My advice would be to have either a Blueberry or Bubblegum as i've heard Bubblegum is brilliant and I now know for a fact that Blueberry is! Either of those would be leaning to the Indica side, then have a couple of mostly Sativas.
I have only ever had one sativa (Thai) that I could tell a difference to the usual Big bud that you get around here. I personally like the description of the Super Silver Haze, Arjans Haze and Amnezia Haze and I really like the way Soma grows, and the looks of his plants.
If you want the best Haze's, have a glance through some of the past Sativa Cup winners.

thanks max. I'm going to pick one serious strain (undecided still between ak47 and Kali mist.... And now no thanks to you I'm remembering that I used to smoke bubble gum everytime I was in the Dam in the late 90s-but I think the other choices are stronger right?). How would you compare the high between Kali and 47?

Serious Seeds - any of the 5 they sell, it depends on what you are looking for, all of them rock. Kali Mist beats anything else sold right now. Bubblegum is awesome smoke, nice big plant, Chronic, great buzz and better yield, AK47 one hit wonder, White Rhino I think is the name of the other strain, no experience but I hear it rox. A number one you can't go wrong here.

White Label Seeds - Cheaper price range with decent plants, White Widowgood choice, Double Gum if you want some decent smoke at a cheap price $25 for a pack, nice compact plant.

Dutch Passion - the only place that is easy to get Blueberry from, nice plants.

Greenhouse - White Widow grows nice, some won't buy greenhouse due to the owners business practices but still sells quality plants. It is Hard to beat their variety packs right now.

TH Seeds - Usually don't recommend because of the high price range but you will get decent plants.

Nirvana - I will talk to I'm blue in the face oget you not to order here but if you must you must, the plants will grow and you'll get a decent buzz, just better options out there, like the greenhouse variety pack. Save up and get Serious Seeds.
+Rep to you. Very good info, especially about Serious Seeds. Serious, IMHO, are the best genetics the general public has access to. Kali Mist is, as la9 said, the best available. AK47 has huge buds that are extremely potent. Bubblegum is covered in resin and the high and taste are very very good. White Russian is so potent, it should carry warnings on the seed pack.

I have no idea what your likes and dislikes are but I can guarantee you won't regret ordering anything from Serious Seeds. I have 4 srains growing currently...Seedsman WW...Paradise White Berry...Serious Seeds Kali Mist...Serious Seeds AK47. After several years of sampling various seeds, these 4 are the absolute best for my needs. 50% are Serious Seeds and I just flowered my last White Russian. I replaced the White Berry for the WR just for a new strain. As you can see by my experience, I LOVE Serious Seeds. Good luck!

they have different high's ....the kali will be a hard core sativa high..very uplifting..simon says its his favorite smoke..and he grows the shit..but it takes alot longer to grow...there is a cherry pheno type of the AK ..i dont know if i have it yet..but the flavor and high are really incomparable to most marijuana ...then you have the white russian..i smoked a little of it..yesterday..and it was 3 weeks premature off of a lower branch...i got a nice buzz off of it..the taste ...already was excellent..i can tell it is going to be a hyper expansive weed..in other words if you take a big hit.the shit is going to make you caugh a lung up ....i smoke so much i dont caugh very often..i can tell already..and the plant the weed came off of was stressed too..so im sure that lowered the THC production..but the shit is going to be straight ass kicking weed...it will be bettr than taking a handfull of darvocetes im sure..lol..crushing stone...:hump:bongsmilie

Serious Seeds - AK47: You can't beat the real thing

AK47
There are a couple of classic strains in the global world of extra potent marijuana that have been around for a very long time, fascinating both growers and smokers with their superb qualities, having reached a legendary status. AK-47 for sure is one of these outstanding evergreens, besides e.g. Skunk#1, Northern Lights, Haze or White Widow. For Simon, master breeder of Serious Seeds, finding the unique AK-47 genetic profile was a rare case of the 'lucky punch' every cannabis seed breeder dreams of. In 1992, after having tested thousands of experimental plants of different breeding lines, he finally achieved his goal of creating a high-quality Sativa/Indica strain with excellent overall properties and a lot of charisma - the AK-47 was born. Although Simon keeps the exact pedigree of AK-47 as a secret, like the composition of Coca Cola, he reveals that it was bred from Colombian, Mexican, Thai and Afghani seed stock, resulting in a 50:50 Indica/Sativa hybrid.
At the recent High Times Cannabis Cup (HTCC) 2003, there was some confusion about the fact that Simon entered AK-47 in the Indica Cup for the first time, instead of the Sativa Cup like before, in which the AK had gained several Cup honours, always being considered a mostly Sativa. But the above-mentioned Sativa/Indica relation of 50:50 allows for reclassifying AK-47 every time new results in the breeding process have lead to dominant outer traits of either the Sativa or the Indica type. Because after having finished a new strain and releasing it to the market, Simon uses to keep on working on the genetic formula and partly rebuilds the strains after some years by using previously unused material within the same genetic line as new parent, thus refreshing genetics. The trade-mark characteristics of the strain are basically maintained thereby, only the accents are shifted a little bit. This practice is the reason why Simon's small, but exclusive seed collection never loses its fascination and dynamics. On the HTCC 2003 Indica entry of AK-47 he comments: "Since the AK is currently more appropriately described as an Indica type of effect, we decided to enter it under Indica." Simon furthermore explains the reason for this recent Indica-dominated development of AK-47: "Imagine for example that during your breeding process you choose from each generation the shortest, fattest, mostly kick-ass plants for next parents all the time. Indeed, the % stays the same whatever plants you choose, but the plants effect and looks will be more what we call Indica-like. Such is the case, more or less."
An experienced grower called Cloudz conducted this project, using eight original White Russian seeds. All of them germinated On the whole, AK-47 has won 8 prizes at Cannabis Cups, covering a time period of one decade! It first scored 2nd place in the hydro category of the HTCC 1994, achieved the same ranking in the Indica category of the HTCC 2003 and, on top of that, was recently chosen as "plant of the year 2003" by High Times Magazine in Dec. 2003. "Forever young" could really be the motto of AK-47.

AK47
With its currently predominating Indica characteristics, AK-47 tends to grow to a medium-sized plant with only moderate side-branching, making for a large fat main cola along with several excellent secondary tops. Hence the overall yield can be way above average, Serious Seeds declares 350-500 g per m2 as achievable under good indoor conditions, after 53-63 days of flowering - which is a pretty good time deal, regarding the AK's outstanding qualities in both high and aroma. AK leafs are dark-green, showing more of the Indica spectrum, but not as wide as full Indica leafs. What is remarkable is the fact that also after the latest Indica approach in the AK breeding process, Simon managed to maintain that Sativa-typical high calyx-to-leaf ratio which means lots of flowers and only a few leafs. The single AK calyx size tends to be unsually large, resulting in fat clusters grouping together very decoratively and densely, contributing to the trade-mark appearance of AK-47. These fluffy, compact nuggs ooze lots of glistening trichomes and break up nicely, leaving plenty of resinous crystals on your fingers, unleashing an unusually strong, sweet and fruity aroma.
The AK's name shall by no means be understood as being aggressively intended or following any military tradition, but rather express the special effect that sets in when one smokes the AK, sometimes proving a real 'one hit wonder'. This is made possible by a THC content of 20% (measured by an independent laboratory on occasion of the HTCC 1999). Apart from that, the high is also very complex, clearly pronouncing elements of both sides of the cannabis spectrum. But as the Indica aspect is presently predominating the AK, first of all it quickly provides a heavy, long-lasting stonedness. However, there's still also enough Sativa power to affect a cerebral up-high that prevents the smoker from getting totally hypnotized or even falling asleep. The taste is spicy-sweet, not harsh at all, sometimes with a slight sandalwood undertone - on the whole, satisfying any connoisseurs' taste.
The AK is famous for extraordinary results on hydroponic mediums, as reported by many international growers, and has also been successfully grown outdoors in Spain in the past. In any case, it will perform very well in a greenhouse, ripening from October 15 till 31. According to Serious Seeds, AK-47 clones should be kept in the vegetative stage for 5-10 days.
Like many other evergreens, AK-47 has been adopted many times by other seed banks, and either been used as component for creating a 'new' strain or just been plainly copied. But one thing is for sure about Serious Seeds' AK-47: You can't beat the real thing!

I'll just post some more stuff.....

The Story of Serious Seeds

The breeder behind Serious Seeds, Simon, is responsible for the material sold by the seed bank. He studied biology at one of the universities in Amsterdam and was always a non-smoker. He only discovered the merits of smoking pure marijuana after his study while travelling through Africa in 1986. Today he remains one of the few Dutch who smoke this wonder plant in its pure form as one should. From that moment on he started collecting seeds. Back in Holland he immediately started growing those seeds out for personal pleasure crossing what he thought were the best plants seemed a natural follow up. Contacts with other growers gave him access to different plants from which he also selected the best ones. The genetic background of this material was not always clear.

Kali Mist
Simon taught biology at a high school when Alan Dronkers asked him to come and work at Sensi Seeds. It was quite a career change to do that but he never felt sorry about it. After some time working for Sensi he left and started a seed company with some American pot refugees. That year (1994) the AK-47 as well as the Chronic won prices at the American Cannabis Cup festival in Amsterdam. That first seed company with the Americans soon fell apart however, and in 1995 Serious Seeds was grounded. It has always been a Serious policy to have the products grown from the different seeds available to try out in some of the best coffee shops in Amsterdam. The 'Greenhouse' is one of those coffee shops which carry Serious' products to smoke from the start in 1995 to this date. Greenhouse coffee shop won a Cannabis Cup in 1995 with the Kali Mist grown by Serious Seeds. In 1996 another famous Amsterdam coffee shop, the Dampkring, won the Overall Cup at that year's Cannabis Cup with White Russian, the newest Serious strain. Another serious shop from the early days is the Blue Bird and recently also the Dread Rock, they really sell what is listed, instead of anything under an often asked for name.
Serious has always been a small company, and prefers to stay like that. We love to smoke ourselves, and basically we try to develop new and interesting plants to grow and smoke for our own pleasure, as well as for our clients.
This means we don't work to produce something new every year for commercial reasons or to compete in the next contest. We want to put a new name out when we think we have something worth while for pot growers and smokers to try out.
Common Terminology:

  • F1 hybrid - first generation offspring of 2 (usually different and unrelated) parents
  • Germination - the sprouting of a seed, the tip of the root appears first
  • Indica - referring to type of plant which looks short, bushy, leafy with broad leaves, grows a dense, compact bud in a shorter flowering time than Sativa, another type of plant.
  • Medicinal plant - plant seemingly useful for certain groups of patients (usually with high concentration of THC, possibly combined with other cannabinoids)
  • Sativa - type of plant which looks tall, slender, with open instead of dense buds, long flower times, but with usually better smoking effect than Indica
  • Strain - a line of plants from common ancestors with certain characteristics
  • THC - shortened form name of the molecule responsible for the high-effect in Cannabis

Bubblegum....

Bubble Gum - a 'Seriously' Refined Classic

There are several strains out in the world of cannabis genetics whose origin and further breeding process seem to be unclear. Growers get especially confused, when a certain strain is offered under the same name by two or more seed banks: who has the original one, whose are copies? Bubble Gum is one such contentious strain, of which at least two seed banks do offer their own versions, in this case Serious Seeds and T.H. Seeds (both residing in Amsterdam), not to mention all those internet-based criminal copy cats here. So I decided to trace back the real roots of Bubble Gum. Asking both the aforementioned breeders resulted in two corresponding versions of the Bubble Gum's breeding story, giving good reasons for the existence of two high-quality Bubble Gum strains.
A grower in Indiana (USA) developed the original material during the 80's. In 1993, this guy from Cerebral Seeds gave three very different female Bubble Gum plants to Adam from T.H. Seeds as well as to Simon and Tony (the two split up shortly after, with Simon founding Serious Seeds, and Tony Sagarmatha Seeds). So Bubble Gum arrived in the Netherlands in the hands of three breeders. And from that moment on, different new chapters were written in the breeding history of Bubble Gum, its development kind of branched out. Three breeders - three ways of breeding: These seed masters were going to make their own special selection out of the three different genetic types they had received.
Simon reports: "As far as I know, T.H. Seeds did work further with another of those 3 plants than I did." That's the reason why Adam (T.H. Seeds) considers his Bubble Gum as 'mostly Indica', whereas Simon puts his version into the 'mostly Sativa' category. He focused his research on two of the three lines, finally deciding for one type that should become his Bubble Gum seed strain.

Bubble Gum
It took Simon five generations to end up in the desired breeding result, officially registering it as 'Bubble Gum'. He says that it is not possible to give exact Sativa/Indica percentages, but reveals that the genetic background of Bubble Gum consists of three different exotic Sativas, amongst them Mexican and Columbian, and an Afghani Indica.
It is remarkable that Bubble Gum is the only inbred strain (no F1 hybrid) in the Serious Seeds menu, thus being especially uniform. Upon being asked about special considerations to Bubble Gum, Simon explained: "The bubble gum shows a remarkable uniformity in plants grown from seeds. It is a strong and beautiful plant, which grows a heavy stem: you never need to tie heavy buds up. The initial stages of seedlings can be tender, and you have to take care a bit for them in that stage. It is important to not let them be overgrown by neighbouring plants, which may grow faster at first. When about 2 weeks old the Bubble Gum will start to pick up speed and grow as fast as other plants." This delay in growth can be explained by the fact that the BG is an inbred strain and therefore does not have that hybrid vigour effect (faster and stronger growth) of F1 hybrids.
Keeping these hints in mind, I sow four BG seeds - only four seeds, due to the chronic congestion on my seed-testing list. They really showed off the ground one day later than common, but germinated properly and simultaneously. And in fact, the overall growth speed was slow at first, but increased significantly after two weeks. When the multiple-finger leafs had been formed, their look was quite unusual: dark green in the colour (Indica trait), but at the same time rather narrow and sharply serrated (Sativa traits).
After five weeks from germination, they had grown into medium tall plants (55-65 cm) under HPS 400 + 250 W, with few side branching. But due to the dominating Sativa content, it was clear that they would further stretch during flowering. Two plants turned out to be female and soon developed the first flower clusters after having turned the lights to 12/12. And one could quickly realize that huge top colas were about to be produced by the plants.

Bubble Gum
After four weeks of flowering, the buds began to release a sweet fruity scent that was going to become more intensive from week to week, really reminding of fruity chewing gum. Also resin production had gotten into full speed, covering more and more of the plants' surface. The buds grew into very compact resinous heads, featuring a high calyx-to-leaf ratio, thus allowing for easy harvest processing.
After 58 to 61 days of flowering, harvest was not only easy, but also rewarding, as the two BG plants yielded 25 to 28 grams of finest sticky sinsemilla. As expected, they had kept on growing vertically during flowering, finally amounting to 91 to 102 cm. But this contributed to the formation of long-drawn, heavy yielding main colas.
The buds were pleasantly mild to smoke and had preserved some of that special fruitiness also after the drying process. No surprise that the high delivered a pretty strong Sativa power dosage, with euphoric tendencies, at least it will make you blow some funny fantasy bubbles in your mind.
The Indica aspect, however, is also noticeable, causing a certain degree of stonedness, too. This nice mixture of both sides of the spectrum makes Serious Seeds' Bubble Gum an attractive experience, and accordingly, it has won several awards, e.g. at the High Times Cannabis Cup 1994, 1995 and 1999.
It may be new to some that Bubble Gum is also a good choice for outdoor cultivation. While rather taking place on the balcony in Holland, it is also successfully practiced in the great Spanish outdoors, as Simon reports: "Bubble Gum is also liked for outdoors in Spain a lot, it will also form a very nice plant with mould-resistant buds when grown outdoors here but just finishes not soon enough for my standards to call it an outdoor plant. Normal finishing date 1-15 oct."

AK47 Wins 2nd Prize Indica Cup at the High Times Cannabis Cup 2003

AK47
Once again AK47 wins a prize now a total of eight awards but this time it won the Indica cup when AK is more classified as a Sativa, how is that.
If you keep the track of Sativa/Indica % over multiple generations, and make a nice calculation, you have an exact number, within even ½%. That's on paper, but in real life, it is not that predictable.
Imagine that during your breeding process you choose from each generation the shortest, fattest, most kick-ass plants for next parents all the time.
Indeed, the % stays the same whichever plants you choose but the plants effect and looks will be more what we call Indica-like. Such is the case, more or less.
At last years cup there were reversed entries such as already clear Sativas in the Indica category. As AK is more appropriately described as an Indica type of effect, we decided to enter it under Indica.
This is why I have had to explain the reason for this change.
I am aware that this will cause a disturbance amongst the growers' community but it will also open a discussion about the rigid division in Sativa/Indica when considering plants resulting from inbreeding over many generations.
Finally, the fact that AK47 wins whichever category it enters, proves the overall quality of this super plant.
Simon, Serious Seeds.

AK47.....

Plant of the Year 2003: Serious Seeds' AK-47

It seems strange to choose a plant which has been around for almost ten years as 'Plant of the year'. The prestigious 'High Times' magazine made the decision, and this was published in the December issue. What was the reason for this?
The original article was written by Jeorge Cervantas, the author of 'Indoor Marijuana Horticulture', and a regular co-writer for the American magazine. He told me that he wasn't part of the group who came to this decision, but merely got the order to write the story. Since he doesn't live in the US anymore, he is not aware of all the things going on at the office. After contacting the Serious Seeds office, I was still none the wiser: it was a surprise to them also. Although they stated that it was a well-earned prize for a plant, which, notwithstanding the fact that it won more awards than any other plant known, it was never trumpeted about much.

AK47
Could that be it? Surely the AK-47 is a well-known name in the cannabis scene since Serious Seeds coined it in 1995. But when scanning through old magazines I have to admit that little attention was given to it in articles. The fact that it is well-known amongst growers is mostly from own experience and from their opinions given in chat rooms on the Internet. But when you look at a well-known name like White Widow, another plant thrown into the world by Dutch breeders at about the same time as the AK-47, the latter seems under snowed by the first. For years the name White Widow was heard everywhere. But now, almost ten years later it seems that the AK-47 has been gaining popularity over the years, and was slowly but surely growing out to be such an acknowledged and reliable champion, that there was enough reason to have it chosen as plant of the year 2004. The popularity of this plant is not due to some successful and carefully-planned campaign. No, it came from what matters; from the experience of growers everywhere buying the seeds and liking the results they got from them. They made the plant popular, and if this is the reason for the 'plant of the year' choice, than it is indeed a rightful one.
An ongoing phenomenon with popular seed names, which has been seen for years, is that other Companies like to use those names. They start selling seeds under either the same or almost the same name as the original. People who don't know the name of the companies who produced the original seed names are an easy victim when they ask for this name and get a cheap imitation instead. At the moment for example, the Nirvana seed company doing exactly that. They sell a seed with the name of 'AK-48': how original can you be? But that's not all: when you compare the description of this strain at their website with that of AK-47 by Serious Seeds, it is impossible to see a difference. They copied it 'till the last letter, won awards and all! This is not only taking advantage of the popularity of reputable seed companies, it is cheating and robbing people who are not aware of what is going on. Practices like this are the cause of bad reps in the cannabis scene. Although Nirvana is not the only seed producer making money like this, they seem to be the leading company when it comes to copying popular names.

AK-47 Facts:
  • The name does not refer to any violent idea but was chosen because it is a 'one hit wonder'
  • At least 7 awards were gathered over the years in different cannabis festivals
  • With 20% THC, the strongest entry at the Amsterdam' Cannabis Cup of 1999 (came 2nd place)
  • The name AK-47 is sometimes also used by seed companies other than Serious Seeds, this is a common thing when certain names become popular (beware!)
  • The original packaging comes in an airtight tube containing 15 seeds attached to a card with a picture of the strain on the front and a serial number, which must be kept in case problems do occur
  • Please look for the original packaging when you buy Serious Seeds strains or you know they are copies
  • Only one company in the UK sells Serious Seeds in sealed bags, which still have the serial number on them

Chronic info.......

Chronic - Maybe the Fattest Bud on Earth

Chronic
Every cannabis seed breeder strives to create the optimum combination of quality, quantity and potency. A variety that produces heavyweight flower tops with a delicious smell and tasty aroma that virtually drip THC from vast amounts of resin glands. Well, Serious Seeds for example is a seed bank that has managed to achieve this goal, having bred the famous strain Chronic. With its introduction in 1994, it set a new standard in terms of combining superior yield, flavour and potency excellence in one plant. If growing and harvesting would be an active part of the High Times Cannabis Cup's testing ceremony, Chronic surely would have gained more than just 3rd place in the hydro category in 1994, when it had been entered in the cup for the first and only time. Because every grower who properly cultivates this strain stands mouth wide open in front of his plants at harvest time, stunned by the Chronic's enormous cola size and flower beauty. The buds not only are huge, but also nearly leafless, nicely composed of abundant small single flower clusters that add up to large colas with the size of a brick or even bigger.
The pedigree of chronic is very classic, consisting of Northern Lights/Skunk x Northern Lights/AK-47. This is the formula of today's Chronic. The original one, being in existence during the 90's, had no AK in it. But by the late 90's, Simon, the breeder of Serious Seeds, thought that his Chronic was kind of dated, as he puts it, and had to be refreshed and made more complex by breeding in a slight degree of superior new genetics. He decided for his proven AK-47. It was of utmost importance not to lose any of those marvellous characteristics that had made the strain so popular amongst worldwide growers.
Simon reports: I bred more Sativa into the Indica-dominant Chronic, which gave it a more complex, full-spectrum high without losing the nice yield and flavour. The facelift also improved both the strength and resin content. The mildly sweet scent with a bit of spiciness also stayed intact. The grower has to keep a special eye on the drying process in order to preserve this honey-sweet aroma. Simon gives the following recommendations: Even while living, the wildflower scent is subtle, but it will be lost for good if not dried properly. When put in plastic before completely dry, the scent is irreversibly gone, more so for this variety than for any others I've worked with. But if you let it dry thoroughly, the aroma develops a very strong, sweet smell which doesn't fade. For flavor connoisseurs, this could be the difference between thinking Chronic is fabulous pot or just okay.

Chronic
So at the beginning of the new millennium, Chronic was reborn and nowadays is stronger than ever, a fact that I recently could convince myself of, having the opportunity to see and shoot splendid specimens of Chronic, grown by Mr. Power-Planter. He had sowed five original Chronic seeds, three of which turning out to be female. They were grown on soil in 15 litre pots, watered and fertilized by a drip-feeder system. 33 days after germination, Mr. Power-Planter switched the timer to 12 hours light and 12 hours darkness, inducing the plants to enter the flowering stage. What happened very quickly was that within 5-7 days the plants showed their gender. One of the remaining three ladies was pruned for clone production at the main stem so that it grew into a set of strong side branches. While Simon recommends not to top the plants to encourage multiple big buds, as this strain does not respond well, this pruned Chronic plant turned out to be a real 102 cm-bomber in the end, exhibiting five tremendous rock-hard top colas and four very well-shaped tops in the lower region of the plant. So at least with this Chronic individual, Simon's rule was disproved, but this plant probably was an exceptional specimen, with an outstanding hybrid vigour-effect. Mr. Power-Planter of course was very happy about having selected this especially powerful plant for clone production. The second plant had an impressive top cola and a couple of very well developed side branch colas, reaching 94 cm at harvest time. The third plant measured 80 cm and was not as spectacular as the other ones, but still an excellent indoor plant. Flowering time was 66 days for the mighty bush, 68 days for the second and 65 days for the third plant. All of the buds were extremely dense and could very easily be processed at harvest time, as the plants exhibited a high calyx-to-leaf ratio. They were cured and dried very carefully, keeping in mind what Simon had said about the Chronic's precious, but fragile wildflower scent. When the dry harvest was put on the scales, it was like Eastern and Christmas together for Mr. Power Planter. The multiple top cola bush yielded amazing 85 grams, the second one above-average 58 grams and the third one still respectable 47 grams. Also the aroma, taste and high of the buds fulfilled any expectations; these chunky nuggets were a sweet pleasure to smoke and delivered a long-lasting high that expressed both the Sativa and Indica spectrum. No wonder that Mr. Power Planter has already started growing the first batch of clones his new discovery Chronic will keep his garden occupied for a long time, as he said, with a broad smile in his face.
According to Simon, Chronic can also be successfully cultivated under natural light, but has to be grown in a protected environment, e.g. on a sheltered balcony or under glass foil. Ripening time is 15-31 October.

White Russian - Perfect Genetics for the Real cannasseur

White Russian
Amongst the white strains, White Russian is one of the oldest and most sophisticated. We are talking here about a serious, professional piece of breeding work, not one of those varieties hastily cobbled together from inferior genetics and labeled white for commercial reasons by some amateurs. No, it's about the real mighty White Russian, coming straight from one of Holland's breeding halls of fame: Serious Seeds. Simon, the breeder, has done a fantastic job with White Russian, making it a popular figurehead of his seed bank right from the beginning. What a shooting start: White Russian took part in the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1996 for the first time, and it won both the overall Cannabis Cup and the Bio Cup for the coffee shop De Dampkring at first go! In the following year, White Russian scored second place in the Hydro Cup, once again entered by De Dampkring. This company, known as one of the best quality coffee shops in Amsterdam, contributed a lot to White Russian's success story by selling it over years to thousands of tourists from all over the world.
Let us take a closer look at its genetics. White Russian is a stable mostly Indica cross of Serious Seed's AK-47 and the famous White Widow. These two giants of cannabis breeding history were merged into a new mega species that produces very consistent plants of medium height and dense, heavily resinous flower tops with very few leaves. White Russian is one of the strongest varieties available: For an independent seed comparison in the 90's, 150 different strains were grown in a greenhouse. With 22% THC, White Russian turned out to be the most potent plant in this test cultivation. One could argue now, okay, White Russian is award decorated and everything, but that's almost a decade ago, what about its actual capacity nowadays? A legitimate question, one that I decided to give an answer to. An up-to-date White Russian cultivation test should reveal its present quality as a seed strain.

White Russian
An experienced grower called Cloudz conducted this project, using eight original White Russian seeds. All of them germinated very well and were grown at first under a MaxGrow (Germany) energy-saving lamp with 115 watts and full spectrum, what resulted in very compact growth with lush green leafs. Cloudz used six-litre pots with soil mixture. 2.5 weeks after germination, the plants were moved to the actual grow room, where they received 600 watts of light from a high pressure sodium lamp, at a daily light cycle of 18 hours. What struck the eye from the beginning on was the remarkable uniformity of the plants. They actually looked like clones; there were almost no differences in height, width, colour and leaf structure. About four weeks after germination, Cloudz induced flowering by shortening the light cycle to 12 hours. Four plants turned out to be female, the male ones were discarded. During flowering, two types of bud formation were revealed by the plants: Both were very dense and resinous (though not as resin-crusted as White Widow), having quite few leaves. But the first type grew a little bit higher and had colas that were more long-drawn, while the colas of the shorter second type were more roundish. The single yield of the four plants, however, did not differ very much, with the best plants of each type yielding almost exactly the same. They all looked awesome at the end of flowering, loaded with thick beautiful buds all over the plants, from the very bottom to the tip. These tight flower clusters felt rock hard and promised a most rewarding harvest. The only thing that didn't go according to plan was the fact that all of the four plants exceeded the expected flowering time of 56-63 days by five days, finally reaching maturity after 68 days, when 70-80% of the stigmas had withered and turned orange. Well, these additional five days of waiting did not really hurt, considering the superb cannasseur quality of the buds and the extra grams of weight that were produced in the last five days. The harvest amount ranged from 40 to 51 grams, quite sensational for a variety that was grown from seed, cultivated in soil and left in the vegetative state for a standard period of time. Apart from that, the flowers effused an extraordinary strong honey aroma that had adopted an also fruity scent after the drying process. Already in the vegetative state, the plants are developing a strong smell, so take good care about proper air control.
Cloudz was all on edge when it finally came to smoking the White Russian buds. And wow... the effect was even better than he had expected, heavily potent, hard-knocking and stony, but also somewhat cerebral at the same time. One or two bong hits, and he was done for a while. The high would last for hours, often causing fits of laughter. Cloudz estimated the THC content at not less than 20%, clearly noticing the extraordinary strength of White Russian, and I agreed with him. The aroma of the smoke was very fine, too, offering a smooth, full-bodied sweet taste. The grower was overwhelmed by the overall quality of his four White Russian ladies, never before he had experienced quality homogeneity on such a high level, fantastic in both appearance and potency. No doubt, White Russian today still has its firm place among the world's best cannabis strains.

That should keep you busy for awhile and let you know it doesn't get any better than serious seeds.

I also believe that serious seeds have some of the best genetics out there. I have had exp. growing White Russian , AK47, and Bubblegum. I am trying Kali Mist this year from what i here from all the threads has the best up high that exists. My exp. with AK47 is that the high doesn't have any sativa characteristics at all. If you take 4 hits that shit will put you on the couch.

damn... talk a bout a body of evidence. Good job. I thought that serious seeds were kinda boring and no innovation (just 5 strains that don't seem to change), but it appears that the breeder actually is constantly tweaking his product. What a contrast between Serious and breeders like Greenhouse.
