Paul Broun: Evolution, Big Bang 'Lies Straight From The Pit Of Hell'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/06/paul-broun-evolution-big-bang_n_1944808.html

Congressman Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said last week that evolution and the big bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of Hell."
"God's word is true. I've come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell," said Broun, who is an MD. "It's lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior."

He continued:
"You see, there are a lot of scientific data that I've found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I don't believe that the earth's but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That's what the Bible says."
According to NBC News, Broun's comments were part of a larger speech given at the 2012 Sportsman's Banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell, Georgia on September 27th. A clip of the video was distributed by the The Bridge Project, a liberal watchdog group.
Broun is a high-ranking member of the House Science Committee, of which Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) is also a member.
Akin made headlines last month for suggesting that women don't get pregnant from "legitimate rape" because their bodies have "ways to try to shut that whole thing down."
As Gawker points out, Broun made headlines in 2009 for trying to make 2010 "the year of the Bible."
Broun is running for reelection unopposed, the AP reports.

I'm at a loss for words, this is the type of shit you see on the Onion...

Religious fanatics are destroying this country faster than gangs, violence, corruption, disease, poverty or natural disasters combined.

This person is a fucking CONGRESSMAN, how is this possible? HOW THE FUCK DID HE GET ON THE HOUSE SCIENCE COMMITTEE? "Hey Broun, should we continue to fund NASA?" .. "Nah, there's no benefit in looking at the stars... we've got much more pressing issues to deal with, people still don't believe in Jesus! Can you believe that?!"..

What a confused fucking person, goddamn...

^^ Yep, blew my mind, too. To explicitly state that scientific fact are lies from the devil, and that there is science that argues for the young Earth notion is way over the line. It's bad enough civilian nutters are decrying science from every corner, but an elected official on Capitol Hill? What century are we in?

There's something seriously wrong with this country, how did he get on the science committee if he doesn't believe in science? Why do we have so many lawyers elected as politicians and hardly any scientists or engineers? Do you think it's a problem with our population, does it shed light on our education system? This dude earned a BS in Chemistry and an MD in medicine, he is a practicing physician in the state of Georgia, how can we expect him to perform that job if he doesn't believe in the basic principles of medicine? How can an elected official not be immediately impeached (can we impeach congressmen?) for publicly stating that he believes the Earth isn't more than 9 1/2 thousand years old? That is on par with denying the Holocaust or believing rape victims can't get pregnant (that asshole is ALSO on the fucking science committee!!!!).

We have to fucking do something about this shit. I don't give a fuck if we have a freedom of religion in this country, it hurts us all if your beliefs conflict with the American peoples (whom you are supposed to be representing!) well being! These people are goddamn enemies of the state!

What can we do about this shit?

OK so here's the question, perhaps more suited to Politics.
What do we do? To whom do we address our letters? If a good-sized contingent from RIU all contacted the same authority and said "Please remove the Honorable Fucktard from that position of influence", it would ever so conceivably make a difference. Remember the fight slogan of the Subtraction Club? "Let's make a difference!" cn

I am in. Someone set something up so I can voice my opinion without too much effort on my part. I'm sure there are tons of other people that are outraged...but at the same time just want to smoke a j and not research on exactly how we can remove this asshat from a position of power.

Is it lazy to ask a question here when i do not know my step #1, but somebody else probably does? What search terms would you recommend for starting this search? cn

No I am saying I am lazy. He needs to be fired, but I am not in a position to fire him, and I don't know the most effective way to bring about that change. Nor to I really feel like investing the time to find out. If someone linked me to a form I could fill in with no further research needed on my part...now that's what I am talking about. I wanna bitch, but not do any real work.

Someone should take the initiative.

Seconded. Someone should. :joint::bigjoint:

I would, actually, if I knew how. So my appeal is: someone who does know how, please tell. cn
