Thinning out the plant to allow more light to lower bud sites during flower???????

Hi Guys this might sound like a really stupid question to a lot of you experienced growers but here we go.

A few mates who are also fellow growers have recomended that i thin out the plant a little to allow more light to reach the lower smaller bud sites. Now ive read and been told that by pruning my plants fan leaves i will more than likely affect my overall yield.

Also im 4 wks into 12/12.

Is this a good idea or not??????

I can see their point about getting more light to the lower part of the plant, but would it not be better to just maybe add some cfls as side lighting rather than stress the plant out at this stage into flowering??????????:peace::bigjoint:

I never remove leaves. 4 weeks in to flower is leaving it a bit late, but you could try some LST...;)

I would not cut on it at 4 weeks and I would add side lighting if i was able.
I remove suckers when I switch from veg to flower and make my clones from them.
Then for the next few weeks I slowly remove anything I do not want but I stop by the third week
and suffer with what I have. I have a habit of leaving a bit more than the more confident guys but
I`m still learning too.

By cutting leaves, you're cutting the plants solar panels. Yep, more light gets down...but there's less "solar panels".
Aaargh! The irony! ;)

Cheers for your advice guys, i guessed that it may be a bad idea to start hacking bits off now but i just wanted to check.

What i have been doing over the last cpl of days is bending some of the bigger leaves just out of the way so more light is penetrating the bottom of the plant and getting to the lower bud sites.

At the moment my baby is standing at around 4 feet tall and looking lovely, She is almost filling my cab space which is about 4 feet deep and 3 and a half feet wide. I will post some new pics over the next cpl of days but i have put a few into an album, starting from when i got her as a seedling. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Shes a Greenhouse Seeds Fem Cheese. My first proper attempt at growing. Using a 400w HPS and a coco and clay pebble mix. Im using Growth Technology Ionic nutes and Hesi Super Vits. Just watering her as i think she needs it pretty much treating it like a houseplant and she seems to be loving it.

Like i said already, cheers for the advice.

I have to paraphrase another member's post on another thread

"...put down the scissors citizen, and move away from the plant..."

Mostly because it made me laugh ;)

As it happens Buds my one mate is consistently getting between 6 to 9 oz per plant normally with 2 to 3 plants under 1 600w hps.

Like i said this is my first grow and this place is such a minefield of info thats why i had to ask.

Minefield of info is about right Freaxova8r.
And the only silly question , is the one that isn't asked, so everyone should feel free to fire away...

(Excepting the slackers of course ;))

Spot on Sworth. Ive seen so many people who have obviously done no research for themselves asking so many questions they could have found the answers to themselves if only they were prepared to spend a little time reading a few posts and doing some homework before they start.

Nah mate not cfl. 400w hps from seedling about 3-4 weeks veg then turned to 12/12.

Mentioned 600w in response to buds question.

Ive actually decided to start lollypopping one of my plants just an experiment and shes doing great. I waited a week into flower then took off the 4 lower nodes and some smaller branches/leaves off middle. So far she is looking a little thin compared to what im used to but she is looking beautiful! My other girls I just left alone and they seemed to do great on my last harvest. I think its just opinion but at 4 weeks in you may just leave her alone.

Looking good mate, thing is with limited room i didnt want to put more than 2 plants in my cab. Then discovered one was hermie so got rid. Now the cheese is taking up the whole room almost but on the plus side she is getting the most out of the light and space she has to grow big and strong.

Gonna add some cfl`s tomorrow around the sides just to try and get some light in and around the bottom center area of her and see if that helps even more. Hopefully those little bud sites around there will get big enuff to make a difference to my overall yield. Fingers crossed anyway.
