Thinking about trying dyna gro

I was reading up last night on the topic of nutrients, and one line came up more than any other. Dyna gro. Up till now i've been using Gen hydros maxi series. It was cheap, strong, got the job done. Well im going on my 5th grow, and of the 4 i've done with general hydro, one came out damn near immaculate, two were just ok, and one was a complete failure that had to be binned (my most recent)

The only problem i've ever had consistently is yellowing around 3-4 weeks into flower. No matter how much time I give them to transition, or how much veg nutrients I give them to make a better transition, i always get yellowing and I just dont feel like im getting the full potential out of them as I always have a couple of nutrient issues in flower.

So I wanted to try something simple that wouldn't break the bank. And an overwhelming number of people claim they are using just 2 bottles to grow an entire crop. Protekt and foilage pro. When I went to the hydroshop to have a look see, one of the employees insists that its not a good idea to finish a crop without any bloom feed. I also don't think hes just trying to sell me because I've spoken to him quite a few times and he always seems to genuinely want to help.

Those of you using dyna gro, what other products do you give it? any bloom? Fancy boosters / additives?

Check out @homebrewer grows/threads

tell the hydro store guy he is a bit uneducated

how bout a word from the CEO of DynaGro

You are correct. We market a high P (Liquid Bloom) as some "believe" they need this. As you have noted, our Foliage-Pro does a great job start to finish. However, it is simpler to give the market what they think they need than to try to reeducate it. There is some evidence to believe that low N helps to convince a plant to stop its vegetative growth and move into its reproductive phase (flowering), but environmental factors are probably more important. P is typically 5th or 6th in order of importance of the six macronutrients. There is little scientific justification for higher P formulas, but marketing does come into play for the vast majority of users who lack any real understanding of plant nutritional requirements. Therefore, the market is flooded with a plethora of snake oil products that provide little benefit and can actually do harm. For example, one exhibitor at a hydroponic trade show had a calcium supplement with 2% calcium derived from calcium chloride. Can you guess what continued application of 2% chloride would do to plants?'\
I hope this answers your question and am sorry for Zina's inaccurate response.

If you go to their website you can get a quart each of foliage pro and protekt and some pint bottles for less than 20$. Go to the website and contact them. It is their sample pack.

While they are all designed to do the same thing, I assure you, nutrients are not all created equally. dynagro is the only bottle of i know of thats is nutritionally complete in one bottle.
I think Ionic is also, and about the same price point. No question though, they both work. However, I recently received a sample bottle of Soul Syn Grow and with a little calcium supplementation think overall it's better than both. More natural ingredients too.

Here's a couple others:
Gh's floranova.
Botanicare's cns17 and their PBP.

What application rate are you giving them when using the maxiseries? EC?
I've been using the stuff on and off since it came out, and I still feel to this day that it's just as good as any other 1-part that has come out since.

If you bought a bottle from Amazon and the seal was missing, would you return it?
One of the dynagro bottles i bought from the hydroshop had the seal falling off or something. It was attatched the the underside of the cap. There was probably a bad batch of adhesive on them at some point. I'm not worried about it. People buy this stuff in large quantities and keep it around for quite some time.

I didn't measure the EC or ppm because I added a few other things, and i wasn't sure how much that number was really telling me. I added about 3/4 of a tablespoon of maxibloom per 5 gallons of water. half bloom half veg until week 3 of flower.

That might just be why they were yellowing during the stretch;-)
If my stoned mind is working right :-D 3/4 of a tablespoon per 5gal is only .45 tsp/gal. That would end up being only around 0.75 EC. That is very low. I like to be at around 1.6 - 1.8 EC as my peak number, no matter the setup. Working my way up to 4-5ml/gal works everytime;-) I just don't seem to run into deficiencies with that strength, unless i'm starting with ro water and or growing in coco where a little bit more Ca and Mg is needed.

actually i thought that when I as adding an entire tablespoon per 5 gal I was overdoing it. It's hard to tell. My last crop had to be binned entirely.

I did my first 3 grows (autos) using only dyna gro bloom and smoke came out fantastic. I would just get foliage pro though.. foliage pro and pro-tekt can do a grow start to finish no problem... then you could add a little fox farm beastie bloomz/chaching etc or what ever AN shit ya like.

that's about right actually. i use 1mL per gal for young seedlings/early veg and i get up to about 2.5mL per gal for full on veg.

are you using foliage pro?

Those numbers are from GH maxi series. Im going to be giving the girls their first taste of DG FP + protekt today. Im giving them about 3 mL per gal of foliage pro, and about .75 mL per gal of protekt.

Been using Dyangro for years, used to use bloom and grow but now only use foliage pro with a shot of protekt here and there with a spattering of floralicious just for good measure.

Thats odd advice. I haven't heard of hesi aggressive, but why would I give more money to GH? They have less of what a plant needs in their bottles, cost more, while trying to sell the entire line. I've had enough issues with GH.
