Things I learned on my first grow

Hi everyone; I’ve got my first grow under my belt and I learned a lot about what not to do. I’m pretty sure that I was overwatering and over feeding. During the start of flowering, I only fed tiger bloom (I didn’t continue with nitrogen). Luckily, Pops pointed this out to me and I corrected it quickly. I also feel that I had my lights too close to the tops of the plants. Another thing I learned is not to use those elastic trellises (extremely difficult to remove during harvest). I didn’t lollipop and kept too many lower branches which resulted in a lot of larf. I feel that I’m extremely lucky to have actually made it to harvest considering all the mistakes. I ended up with @ 3 oz that are currently curing in both grove bags and mason jars and it smells amazing!!! I’m waiting to actually try it until it is cured out because I want it to be the best thing I’ve ever smoked. All and all, I’m really proud for making it through. I took a couple clones from it and here’s a few pictures of them. They are just starting to flower and already look better than mama did. Thanks to everyone for the help.

Great stuff, I am 3.5 weeks into first grow. Hoping to have some success at the end too.

Out of interest, what made you feel like the lights may have been too close?

Enjoy :)

Hi SZ; I got a little light burn on the top of the main cola. I ended up turning the light down to 75%. Since harvest, I’ve reconfigured my tent and have my lights up to the ceiling (the exhaust fan was being vented out of the top side and it interfered with how high I could raise my light).

Thanks, will be keeping an eye out too. I had my inline in the tent previously but moved it recently on top of the tent on the supports. Carbon filter is the only item blocking the lights but I think it'll be ok. Have a short tent x5ft in height so am hoping that LST will keep the plants down to a reasonable level and I can counter the low height tent. The last real hurdle for me is figuring out the DLI and PAR beyond what I already know and I think I will be able to relax then. Thanks for your initial post and reply :)

Hey secret; I also have a 2x4 tent that’s 5’ tall. I got it from Amazon pretty cheap and it’s a really well built tent; its brand is RichYa. I also have a 2.5x2.5 ipower tent that I use for vegging and a 2x2x3 Zazzy tent that I use for a clone nursery (the worst made one I have). I ordered a set of scales and they came today from Amazon and I was off on my estimate from my first grow. It was actually 122.5 grams of flower and 21 grams of sugar leaves and larf. Since these plants are bigger than mama, it should be around 3/4 pounds (which is awesome to me). It’s been hard but I haven’t smoked any of it yet because I want it to be the best thing I’ve ever had. It’s smells amazing; skunky citrus and cedar all in one!!! I’m giving it 2 more weeks before I try it. Good luck with your first grow
