The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of paste and dabs of RTV. Easy to remove! They are designed to run with no heatsink - that means they need an airspace on both side for proper heat convection. SO... if you DO use a heatsink with them, you should use a heat sink compound to get a good thermal interface, otherwise you're blocking the heat dissipation of that side.
I used Arctic Silver 5 paste on some and others I used Arctic Silver thermal adhesive. The ones with the AS-5 paste, I used dabs of RTV at each of the mounting holes to keep them in place.
I would not count on it. Silicone gels tend to get more "liquidy" when heated. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of paste and dabs of RTV. Easy to remove!
The tape works great, but removal is difficult. On my last build I used dirt cheap ebay paste and attached with zip ties.
I wonder if silicone heat sink compound would hold the strips on?
"The compound won't harden, dry out, or melt. Silicone Heat Sink Compound, Size 3 oz., Color White, Temp. Range -40 Degrees to 500 Degrees F"
