The Smell???

Ok so I've been growing for roughly a year, mainly its just been getting clones to a good size to bud, but my question is how do I get that good dank smell. I've done it once where it was super strong, but the last couple harvests I've had its more of a grassy to no smell at all. Any information on how to get that good dank smell would be much appreciated.

It's the Genetics which determine the nose of the plant.

I have some Sour Diesel , grown from a clone which has an incredible smell. This is dank.

I have a C-4, grown from a clone which is not as pungent as the Sour Diesel but is very dank smelling.

I have some Super O.G.'s grown from clones which smells a lot less.

These are all dank weed, but some strains smell less than others.

So you should be able to find a Strain which has the smell you want and grow it.

Then take your cuttings from it for the next round. :bigjoint:

I will offer a partial agreement to golddog. I would have to say that alot of the plants smell is determined during the dyring and curing process. You can dry it out for a couple weeks by making sure the air is clean and circulating. Dry it in an open area, hung upside down away from all other branches like, so snip everything away and 'prune it", so nothing is rubbing against it and clip all those nasty fan leaves away. After the first week of drying, place the buds on a stick in a brown paper bag with the mouth of the closed (rolled up).
If you like to enhance the smell and flavors, you can "Cure" it which usually consists of placing an amount in a air sealed jar and placing it in a cool dark place. the moisture from the plant with re-enrich it's odors as it sits therefore increasing the smell of the plant. you should air it once a day for like a few minutes, then close it up and let it sit again. the longer you "Cure" the better the smell and flavor that will come. most don't have time to "Cure"

Well it can't be because of different strain because its the same, but I think its drying a lot faster than before. Can this cause it to smell different?

Yep, drying to fast or not drying enough will give it a hay/grassy smell. Slow and steady is the way to go when drying/curing.

i have the best luck drying in the grow room.... since humidity and temp are already controlled, and early cycle vegging is done under floros, heat isnt an issue.

Yea I was drying in the grow room but now I have a 400w and a 600w and the room tempts do stay @ a good temp but still have days where it gets too hot in there for like an hour. Ill probably just use my other closet in another room to dry them out. But thanks for the advice, hope my next drying turns out better

its possible you are harvesting a little too early ..that would cause the weed to not smell as pungent

Yea I thought about maybe I was harvesting too early but I let my harvest go a bit longer an still the same...I just really want the smell as strong as I did before. Like I had a nug the size of a peanut m&m in my car an my whole car stank good within an hour proabably less lol. But thanks for all the help and tips.
