Seems like every grower I meet these days is growing in mySuper Soil*, I have met people from all over the world who have mixed up theirown version using products similar to the ones I use. I thought it would be acool to do a side by side grow of one well known strain using my techniques andin a good quality store bought soil as well. This way we can visually see the difference if any my method producesin yields or quality.
For this project we will be suing the Jacks Cleaner f1 cutthis strain is a hybrid mutt that I created about 14 years ago.
But where did it come from?
I got my first PC in about 1994 it was an Acer 133 and soon found a great dealof information on Cannabis, certainly not anything like today but it led me togrow chats where I met others that shared an interest for growing. One of thefirst I became close online friends with was a guy with the nick Skoosh. Iwas amazed that there was another seriously hard working taxpaying Loyal Americanthat waked and baked everyday of his adult life. We swapped stories online, toked while we typed and found out we both love ice cream. He offered me someseeds and over time traded around what we each had. He sent me about 200 seedsof a old strain called Skoosh that was pretty infamous in his circles and Istarted cracking large treys looking for a keeper. The make up of these seedswere Pluton, Lambs bread, Purple Haze, and Northern Lights. What mix or patternthese crosses occurred I am not sure. Most of what I found was not impressive, super thin spindly sativas and mutants with whorled leaves. I did find a fewthat seemed normal and grew them to maturity. Of all the seeds I started over aperiod of a year one phenotype stood out. It was a extremely resinous ultralemon wonder. It reminded me of a house hold cleaner named Mr Clean So Inamed it The Cleaner. It had one poor trait and that was weak stems andsmaller size. I had not yet read botany and we all thought breeders weresmarter than god so it was just luck I had a Jack Herer male from Sensi Seedsthat I was to lazy to kill and just placed in a dark garage. It refused to dieso I placed a small 12 Cleaner clone with him and she produced about 35 seeds.
From these I selected the best female and tossed all the males. From these wasthe Phenotype we call Jacks Cleaner, Jacks Cleaner is a large heavy producerwith ultra white raised trichomes that actually give the plant a gooeyappearance. Heavy citrus with over bearing lemon smell and taste I have yet tosee anything like it. It's actually one of Bubbleman's favorite full meltproducing strains.
The Base soil we are going to use is called Roots organicand is available pretty much up and down the west coast in garden stores andgrow shops. I am now using Biobiz Lite as a base soil and I have also hadreally good results from Happy Frog soil. This article will focus on the Rootssoil which is my favorite of all the products I have mentions but this year ithas a bad case of Gnats so were now using alternatives. Roots by Aurora is agreat product and a good company and I am confident they will address the gnatsby next season. When I transplant I place about ½-2/3rd super soilin bottom and layer the top with a Basesoil to let the plant get started before hitting the hot mix. I also placeda JC in just the Roots organic and placed them in the rear of the garden.

I feed the plants only water in my garden and with the supersoil have the healthiest garden I have had in awhile. One of my favorite thingsabout using this method is I make up enough for a full year and so the resultsare predictable and repeatable over and over. Not just in my garden but incannabis gardens all over the world.
For the first 30 daysthe plant without super soil did just fine but about day 35 she showed signs offading. I fed her some Pure Blend Bloom and a cap full of Earth Juice Grow, shestood up that night and showed turgid leafs but in soil esp that late oncefading starts that early its hard to completely stop it. TGA growers call thischasing a deficiency and its never an easy route.
In the non super soil plant you can see the yellow leavesand how the plant has even some dead leaves on her. I didnt touch either ofthese plants before taking pics so you see them how they are.
As time goes by and the plants mature we can see theyellowing on the Roots only plant has progressed quite far up each leaf. Fadingthis early in soil can cut into your total yields but I will tell you theflowers from these type of faded plants are very smooth and very Dank!
I also notice that plants that are not grown in super soilseems to finish faster, maybe it is because the healthier one stayed so green.
The smell on both is what youd expect out of JCf1 lemonmania with a hint of Haze. The plant in super soil was off to the side as welland the Roots plant was directly under the bulb to make sure she had the bestopportunity. The non Super Soil plant was harvested 5 days earlier. This alsowill cut into the total amount of flowers harvested from the plant.
