The Screenhouse 2012

Thanks for all your comments guys. I got the netting at deboisag.com, it was from france, and it was expensive. But it was the only thing I could find that was designed to cover plants for the purpose of protecting against insects while letting about 96% light through. In a hot area like mine I think you could do the same thing with shade material and your plants would be just fine if not benefit a little. With the shipping(bulk item) and all it came to about $500 but I have enough left over to build two more greenhouses so I figure i'll use it in the future. I still want to put polycarbonate clear roof panels on top as a permanent roof. Last year it was an absolute nightmare trying to keep a 24x24 white tarp suspended for the rain. With the panels the rain would just run right off and I wouldnt have to be outside at 5am with all sorts of ropes and ladders getting completely drenched in cold rain lol

I was wondering more about your setup up if thats alright. I have a similar size to work with and was wondering how many plants you do in your area, and how big they get in those 5 gallon buckets? Also, how big are they when you start? thanks and keep up the good work!

Last year I did 18, 6 in 45gal, and 12 in 30gal. In hindsight it was too many plants and variation(strains,size etc) and I was wasting space. This year im doing a total of 9 in the screenhouse. The goal is to do a semi-scrog of the plants to try and fill the whole greenhouse up with tops. To answer your questions my plants can get big in those 5 gallons but it doesn't matter much because as soon as they're all sexed, the final females are chosen and put into holes with an amended mix. They are all from seed.

Still just mixing soil and getting the holes filled steadily. Weather is starting do get how I like it, hot and sunny! Plants doing good, some sexing goin on. Moved 3 males to a different location, and have identified 6 females so far. Been spraying Azatrol every 4-5 days lightly for insects. Hope to get one of those bad ass atomizers(foggers) for when they get big.

thx for the rep man, looks like you got your shit well in order. I want to get some artificial lighting for 2-3 hours after dusk.. but its too much of a concern with neighbors. You definitely gave me some good ideas and advice with the screen house, as I get caterpillars as well. They are brutal, lucky I didn't get it too bad last year, was able to have a very successful harvest, but i did lose a considerable amount.

Will be keeping an eye on this

How much did u end up getting off each of those sick plants from last year???

Thanks for checkin in Kev, yeah man if you feel its worth it im always recommending ppl build a screen structure for budworms if they get them bad. I have new neighbors on one side of my yard and though we have a decent amount of privacy and seclusion and have never had any complaints, they will definitely be able to figure out whats going on in the screenhouse soon, if they haven't already...I hope they're cool about it(especially come oct). So I totally understand your concerns about using lighting, dont wanna ruffle any feathers and its always smart to take your neighbors into consideration even if your all legal. Those lights im using are pretty bright in the screenhouse at 830 lol but theres enough space between my property and everything else that the light doesnt reach too far outside the general grow area.

My plants varied greatly in size and everything last year lol some were barely affected by the leaf disease(whatever it was) and others almost stopped growing. My biggest plants were a couple zips short of a lb, most were in between 6-8 oz and I had some smalls that yielded just 1-2 oz.

Also forgot to say that you can keep the supplemental lights more lowkey if your worried about neighbors. Add a makeshift reflector over the bulbs to direct the lights just over your plants. Ive seen ppl do this and it made the lights way less noticeable because the light isnt shining upwards at all. The way I have my lights the light just goes in all directions bright as hell lol

man, i got my greenhouse mostly build and doesn't look nearly as well built as yours. What did you use to keep the corners perfect 90 degrees?

Well keep in mind mine is pretty big, like 22x22, and I built it so that it is strong enough for me to get on top and do stuff without worrying about shit collapsing, so I couldn't cut corners at all. Everything was connected with brackets, in home depot they have any bracket you could ever need for any angle, here's a pic as an example.

nice soil mix- just throwing it out there, you should try Vital Earths Potting Soil. It only comes in 1 cu bags and is kinda expensive, but I honestly think its better than ocean forest. Dont get me wrong, I use ocean and im using it right now and its great stuff, but since last years grow Ive had some grow in the vital earth. The difference i noticed most is at transplant. The roots in the vital earth were bright white and extremely fuzzy. While the Ocean looked good but not very fiberous. The texture of Vital Earth is so rich I wanna jizz my pants every time i mix it. Feels like velvet/silk.IMO. ANYWAY keep up the good work, your the man!

Thanks for the info Kev im always looking to try other stuff. And the way you described the vitalearth it sounds like what I look for, definitely want those bright white roots! And to be honest I have seen a quality drop in FFOF, this year im finding wood pieces that aren't composted as much as id like, its looking more like kelloggs patio plus every year lol Im not the type who has a set soil mix, this year I just got a lil of this a lil of that, just generally tried to balance the NPK and get a lot of micronutrients in there.

ya I totally agree with you about the ocean forest. Quality isnt the same as a couple years ago, but its still pretty good. I found a huge stick in my bag the other day about 8 inches long and inch thick. i was like WTF.
