The Real Cost of the New Recreational Marijuana Taxes?

So prop AA passed plus different local tax issues :( and I’m trying to figure out what that means in cost to me. I've seen lots of percentages thrown around from 20% to 50%.

Not sure if my math is even close but here is how I see it for a Denver resident.

$100 unit of pot from a supplier. Doesn't matter what that amount is in weight its whatever is sold for $100.

$100 x 15% excise tax = $115. So that $100 amount is now $115.

The retail store buys the $115 amount form the supplier and marks it up 100% for retail sale (very conservative I'm guessing).

Now the original $100 unit is now sold for $230. Now come the sales taxes. 21.5%

10% State pot tax
3.5% Denver pot tax
8% Denver and State normal combined sales tax for immediate consumables (food & beverage, liquor)

$230 X .215 = $49.45 in sales tax
$49.45 + $30 (the real cost of the 15% excise tax) = $79.45

In comparison:
MMJ for a $200 unit is $216 with 8% sales tax

What I thought Amendment 64 promised - The same $200 unit + $30 excise tax + $18.4 sales tax = $248.40 ($32.40 or 16.2% more in cost over MMJ) High but fair enough to legalize marijuana

What we got in Denver- The same $200 unit + $30 excise tax + $31.05 pot tax + $18.4 sales tax = $279.45 ($63.45 or 31.7% more in cost over MMJ) Almost 2x what I thought I voted for with A64.

Did I get this right? Please let me know if I’m way 0ff base.

It means that just on tax on vape pen cartridges, it is worth it for me to renew my red card.
Not sure how that wholesale excise tax is calculated since most stores will grow 100% of their product.

For CO residents the red card or a home grower are the clear choice. The taxes are just too greedy for me to support recreational retail sales. It will be really interesting to see how the prices compare side by side in one of the new split recreational/medical stores.
