Have you tried Smart Pots? I have seen about a 15-20% increase since I started using them and my root balls are much denser then they have ever been. I don't think I even know of anyone who has used them and then decided to go back to traditional pots.

Here is the results of someone who did a side by side of smart pots verse square plastic pots the only deference being the pot and from what I have seen in my own garden and others these are pretty typical results as far as yield difference.

OK, before I type everything out, all I have to say is OMFG what a difference a Smart Pot makes!!

Here are the results:
================================================== =
Std. 4.75gal sq. Pots
Inky: 79.72g (2oz 23.02g)
Blinky: 86.81g (3oz 1.76g)

#5 Smart Pots
Stinky: 121.15g (4oz 7.75g)
Dot: 109.95g (3oz 24.9g) [This was the slow poke runt to root during cloning]
================================================== =

So as you can see, it made pretty much a full ounce difference. I thought the difference would be significant, just not a full ounce significant. I'm officially done with std. nursery pots.

All of the goods were trimmed so they had virtually no stem. If anything, the Std. 4.75gal sq. Pot plants had a higher stem to bud ratio due to some nugs not being as dense.

No its these http://www.discount-hydro.com/products/C.A.P.-Gro-Pots.html or you can use these which do the same the thing http://www.discount-hydro.com/superoots-air-pots/
The basic premise is that your roots hit air when they reach the side of the pot and instead of spinning around the outside of the pot they get pruned by the air and the roots then branch off making for a much denser root ball.

You can search air pruning, root pruning, air pots, smart pots, etc. on youtube or google to get more info if you want. They really do work.
