Fixing to start my first hydro grow. Choice of 2 waters. My town water ppm 13 ph 8.9 or my artisan flow well that that's been flowing out of the ground for the last 100 years ppm 7 ph 5.9. The reason I'm asking is I've changed my house over to town water because the artisan water eats through all my copper tubing in the house. So is there something in my water that's not good for my plants?

................................................more natural disolved solids/elements, the water companys take most of these out and put other stuff in like chlorine and fluride - google it :)

Have a hard time believing your ppm is only 7 out of your well. you sure its not 7grains of hardness? and mybe the same for your city water 13ppm. both of them numbers are extremely low for non filtered water. I actually can tell you its not 7ppm because that means your copper pipes would not have any problems due to the fact there really isnt anything in your water to harm them.

Agree with ringleader. Definitely not 7 ppm. Where do you live? US? If so, just go to safeway or something where they have the water machines that you can get a gallon for 25 cents. Very good investment.

Sounds like your flowering well ,and your town water is from the same sorce , you should check in to that, because the readings you are getting are simular, both very soft water, with that said I agree your ppm readings are off , because with such soft water your plumbing should not have any problems. Im from the NE and also have a flowering well that flows out of the ground on my property ppm 20-22 ph 6.8 , My drilled well 225 ft deep, has a ppm of 16 and a ph 5.9 , this is on a .5 scale ppm meter , So I know I am really in the same sorce, but one would think the ppm would be lower in a flowering well ,because it is artisian and the water is under pressure so has constant movement there for not picking up minerals being able to sit in the earth for too long ,well this is what I read about flowering wells anywey, but go figure, but on the other hand my well water has a mineral taste but the flowering well is taste less and is clear as glass , again go figure.
