hahaha flo, that was exelent first time i laughed all day, well actually laughin pretty good, well done flo, quick question, was bored or wasted...or both...lol

but hey flo, check this out i was doing some research and found this http://www.oxygeninfuser.com/infusors.htm

got me hooked & intrequied this whole DWC, well i think i may of overthought a lot of this, as we all know some of the best results have come from the simplest of systems, having said that i got curious on how to possibly improve on some of these ideas, well this link shows an oxygen infusion system, was designed for keeping fish, but basicly in infuses ungodly amounts of oxygen into the water, so got me thinking, ok so lets bounce some ideas back n forth, after all isn't the whole point of DWC to supply as much oxygen to the roots as possible ?
ok so what iv'e learned so far, please corect me if i'm wrong, & please do, after all are we that ignorant to say we can't all learn something new, anyway enough said...
keep water temps cool,
keep water well oxygenated, if not well airated
keeping the water level as close to the pots as possible, although this prevents a lot of natural air also prevents the larger main roots & seems to promote more feeder roots
i'm thinking of installing small pump permanantly in one corner, lil silicone to be safe..lol, run 2 airlines in to 2 x H shape micropore stones, i'm also liking flo's idea of a lil square cut-out in corner for the good ol ice bottle trick, cheap simple & very effective
we wont go into lights n crap after all this is a DWC thread..lol
thats my input for the day, ok so scrutanise away but please be gentle...lol

Peace

LMAO.....Thank FM !
I was actually inspired by Khakiman's post which was fueled by none other than Cinderella 99 herself !
About to go back for more after this post too ! lol

I'll look at that link.
Saw your post and wrote back 1st.
I was looking at the little fisherman dissolved oxygen pumps.
Saw them at Wal-Mart, Dick's, Sport's Authority, etc..
Small pumps, MORE than enough for our coolers, for fisherman to put in their boat or portable coolers (like ours) in order to keep the fish alive.
Can't remember prices because I found them on a fluke while in a hurry to do something else.
Well Oxygenated and well aerated = Same thing ! lmao
J/K...had to go there though.....lol

You have your thoughts in order.
I have been thinking of some possible simple mods myself, with my air stones.
This is the place to do what we are now doing.
Keep us posted, in detail please, if you go with those plans.
Pics too.
Not enough pics in threads.
I like pics. lol

" Here I come Cindyyyyyyy !"

That 2nd pump is EXACTLY what I saw in a store.

closeup of my current nugs

edit: no leaks! i tried to loosen the fitting but its not budging without a giant wrench so i guess ill leave it and do the next one with pipe tape

FM -
I like this one too.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170616015418

I like how it sits by the surface and pumps the DO down first.
I was thinking about putting my air bars up on my cooler waqlls, about mid-level.
My bars never get clogged, but my roots get very long and abundant so I know they have to be blocking some DO.
Or these DO aerator's with just 2 of my 14 inch bars on the cooler floor ! :P

KM -
Loving those Igloo's !
The nugs too.....lol
Check Weedler or BeaverHuntr's thread.
I believe one or both of them showed how they attached their air lines.

flo you searching ebay too....lol, i checked walfarts website but came up emty
Yeah......lmao.....thanks a lot ! lol
My lady reminded me I saw it at Wally World about 4 months back in their Sporting Goods section.
They also had the little "D" battery pumps for buckets that last a day.
Those maybe an idea for emergency back-up now that I typed that !! lol

hahaha, yup it's all flo's fault, got me realy interested in the DWC & i just kept digging researching & inventing...lol

havent got 1 yet, looking at a few on ebay, going to take lil stroll through walfart tomorrow if they got 1 i'm getting it, can't go wrong, if it don't work, bring it back, after all it's walfart...lol

as far as the spray bar goes i don't see how it would hurt

hmmm flo looking at the floating unit spraying down, i'm leaning toward the bottom version spraying straight, now there is a difference in these units, some allow an airline hook-up & some don't, with the hook up you could always infuse pure oxygen if desired, add a basic airpump & you have a tsunami of micro air bubbles win win in my book, going to get 1 & do some experiments, the 1 main thing i think needs serious consideration is that with one of these aerators i do think you will need larger coolers, well see

the one flo posted was fastened to the top so I though that with that kind of force against roots would not be good as I have had roots break off just pulling them out of the cooler top(IMO)

I saw some of those $14 aerator's for new and inexpensive.
No more than 2x's that price I believe.
I'm curious as to the force of the bubbles.
That's one reason I like the tubes on the side with a soft cascade flowing into the solution and minimal damage to the roots, if any.
Now the con to that is less DO than the aerator.
But even at 86F the avg DO in water is 7 ppm.
Fish only need 3 ppm of DO to live.
So no matter what, we ARE supplying enough, but we want MORE ! lol

And you two got me sold on the aerator at the bottom, IF the force is too much.
We could always just point either aerator at the side wall first, then the bubbles will disperse.
There will be so much DO, that there won't be a loss of any so-to-speak.
I saw a 400GPH pump that said it rated from 10 gallons on up.
An aerator in a large rez for a RDWC would most def kick ass.
Whatever DO is lost during the recirculating process wouldn't really matter since you would still be giving more DO than you originally were.
