I have to select 12 strains off my menu of 40 to enter the new California Market,
It requires special packing and verbage and I have been working on them all week.

Originally tested as Laika supposedly the first dog in Orbit but my research reveals that The dog died within a few hours from the intense heat. The Russians had always claimed the dog passed peacefully away in orbit but it was a cover up. They sent two other dogs into space Belka and Strelka. Many years ago when I met Chemdog I sampled all his crosses and the one I liked above all the rest was Snodawg.I worked with a grower at the time “Clancy” and I passed the Snodawg cutting to him. At the time I was developing Space Dawg and we actually played around with the name Laika I found an article on Rollitup where I talk about it but in the end I went with Space Dawg.

Almost a decade later working with Kyle Kushmans Stardawg I guess old mental paths connected and I told Badger and Kyle I liked the name Laika. None of us looked on Seed Finder to discover that Clancy took the Snodawg and a pack of my seeds and recreated the cross and named it Laika. So I have decided to change the name of the strain to the second dog in space Strelka. Belka actually made it into orbit and provided more data about space flight lets hope my new Collab with Kyle Kushman and Badger is as successful.

I have always been impressed with Kyle’s Terpene profiles and since we go way back it only made since to work on a few projects together. Badger loves the way Stardog grows and he has created a new Hybrid for us. Berries, Candy and Kush with hints of Sour Diesel


Strelka is a very unique plant growing fast like an Indica but finishing rapidly, yields are great. She smells absolutely amazing with an array of complex flavors and smells. I love growing new genetics and yes most of the time all of them are good genetics but plants like Strelka is why I truly do it. You know when you have found that one that special plant you will keep in your garden for good. She is on a equal platform as the Kosher Kush, meaning Strelka isn't going anywhere.

By combining the grapey-lavender taste of Purple Urkle with the unique smell and taste of Cheese we have created a flavor of Cannabis so incredible it instantly became my favorite Cheese hybrid. The inhale is a sweet Grape while the exhale is a combination of cherry and cheese. The high is strong and slightly trippy creating a mental energy that can be confusing, yet delightful.

This strain produces large towering colas that are encrusted in crystals. Chernobyl is another of our color changing strains which produces stacked trichomes and copious amounts of resin. The taste is a combination of sweet and sour with a lime Slurpee undertone and earthy overtone.

When I came out west I started on a Quest for the best Trainwreck cutting I could find. I was not impressed with the Arcata cutting as it was to tall to slow and to bi-sexual for my taste. I had written off this legendary strain until I came across an amazing plant discovered by Smokescreen. Found inside a bag of Dank of the few seeds found one female exhibited all the traits of the famous wreck without producing a single male stamen even late into budding. The complex late coloring is a thing of beauty and the potency of this mother is epic. Extremely potent smoking just a few bowls is an adventure in repertory failure and flat lining your brain waves. We decided to combine this incredible female with the genetics of Jack the Ripper.


Phenotypes – Tall Encrusted plants that seem to produce more trichomes that hairs strong lemon and margarita taste. Top and train for best results this strain produced the infamous cut “The Golden Ticket” and “Slymer”

A Hybrid of Charlotte’s Web and Pennywise our 1.1 CBD strain we created using a rare cutting. Harlequin that is a CBD mother plant. Works amazing for pain of all types with an added kick of 20/1 CBD/THC in Selected Cultivars. Expect fruity resinous flowers not typical of a CBD hybrid.


I have long wanted to create true medicine with the plant I love so much and Chef Joel made it possible. With the creation of Pennywise we knew we had a potential male CBD plant. When Norstar Genetics acquired a rare cutting of Cannatonic called Charlotte’s Web I asked him to create a hybrid of the two heavyweight CBD strains. It’s rare to have both female and male parents contain CBD so this is somewhat groundbreaking. I first noticed some amazing photographs on the social media platform called Instagram and of course I started paying attention. Then I started to see strains I had created grown so well I could hardly believe my eyes. It wasn't long before I became big fans of Teamterpene


The thing that was so unusual about there grow style was was a full room of cannabis buds in what looked like a single pot a nice scrog net over the top is what it looked like to me and I've never seen so much weed coming out of one pot indoors in my life


I want to know more about this grower so I started following him and eventually I contacted him and started asking him about his gross style.


His Photography is nothing less than spectacular and I wanted immediately to know more about his style and what he shoots with.


Ok, I shoot the Canon 5d Mark iii. The lenses I shoot with depends on my angles I’m looking for. For my wide angled shots I will equip my EF 24‑70 mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. For my 1:1 ratio shots I’ll shoot with my EF 100mm f/ 2.8 Macro USM Fixed Lens. For my zoomed in macro shots I’ll reach for my

MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo Lens. My garden shots are mostly shot at f11 and will adjust my iso if the shutter speed is too slow. My studio shots are hand held, but my macro studio shots are shot on a heavy duty Gitzo tripod. The studio lighting, I use are two Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT E-TTL with Manfrotto 2ft x 2ft soft boxes.



Phil told me that they are using only plain water with a couple compost teas during the veg and bloom cycle. The lights they run are spyderx plus lights from Fluence bioengineering. Their rooms are sealed with supplemental CO2 burner and a 1.5 ton AC unit

Their style is No till and they reuse the same pots with the same soil each cycle. They use top dressed plant material and consists of mainly defoliation of the plants (stems, leaves), holy basil, nettles, yarrow, dandelion leaf, neem leaf, horsetail, alfalfa and hay. They make sure and keep keep the mulch layer about 1 inch thick. They never disturb the soil so the root balls stay in the soil and are broken down by the soil micro life and used as energy to feed our plants. They use cover crop that consists mainly of clovers and fenugreek as our nitrogen fixers.


I asked Phil to tell me a little about himself.

“I was a craft beer brewer for 20 years. In 2011 I was Midwest homebrewer of the year. I also worked with a local brewery and won multiple awards with them, including a gold at the world beer cup in 2012 for our India pale ale. Three years ago I became celiac, gluten intolerant. It was like someone ripped my soul from my body. I had to dig deep within myself to find a new passion. That's when I stumbled into photography and then growing.”


Phil entered a Photo Contest and when he submitted the pictures of his Deadlights I knew I had to try and get him published I asked him for a small quote.


Thanks a million, Phil "Sully" Sullivan TeamTerpene Deadlights Team Terpenes preferred method of growing is the process of No-till farming, without disturbing the soil through digging, stirring and overturning. This method builds humus rich soil, through a constant added source of organic material, microbial and enzymatic activity, and therefore plant nutrient availability. Nothing can replace the benefits when this is allowed to occur naturally in your container and the soil to be left alone. There are many benefits to the no-till process but the most powerful benefit is that it makes soil more resilient. Five seeds were sowed into our 30 gallon, third cycle, “no-till” pot and four sprouted. Three of the four plants were female and the male plant was removed at the base and applied as mulch. Only plain water is applied to our pots keeping the soil consistently moist which allows life to move about, breaking down the leaves and stems, which recycles nutrients back into the soil. Once this plant material diminishes, and we don’t have material left over from each crop, our other alternative is a mixture of organically grown straw, comfrey, nettles, yarrow, dandelion leaf, neem leaf, horsetail and holy basil. Maintaining this mulch layer will keep your soil in a state of maximum performance allowing your crops to perform at peak health. No-till farmed medicine not only tastes better and performs the way Mother Nature intended, but you know what you’re putting into y our body. "

Thoughts:


It was an honor having Deadlights in our garden. These three plants leaned towards sativa and threw the most incredible looking “spears” we’ve witnessed. Some of the leaves had a slight pink hue to them when ripening up. Along with the aromas, this strain was absolutely stunning.


I can tell you that his pictures are amazing the lighting the cleanliness of the room and the shaping of the plants. It is nothing less than amazing and the reason I “Discovered” him as it were. This strain took 10 years to perfect with the lemon-berry taste of sour grape gum. Purple coloring and tinted resin are part of this Indica’s genetic makeup. This strain is good for low ceiling rooms as it remains short and is very easy to grow.


This Indica dominant hybrid has a great taste and out of a five plant test run all 4 females turned a nice shade of purple with warm temps throughout. Our goal was to recreate the nice grape flavor but ad some speed to the slow Urkle mom and the results are better than we expected and finding 2 keeper moms from the very small test run we did. Results from the field verify mild variation, good yields and fantastic flavor and colors. This hybrid has been featured in both Skunk and High Times magazine.


Phenotypes –Most females display some shades of Purple and flavors range from Grape to Cherry to a warm blueberry muffin. Some of the best tasting Cannabis I have ever grew came from a 10 pack of Querkle. For Photographers you will find no prettier a subject.

Phenotypes: Tall highly encrusted flowers some leaning heavily to the Cough with strong Strawberry terpenes, 30% Lean towards Jack the Ripper these have more resin and a sourer lemony taste. Every female we have seen have been a superstar.

This project started off with a large pheno hunt looking for a unique cut of Cookies & Cream. When I found exactly what I was looking for, she has a beautiful structure and holds herself upright with no need for support. With a rich aroma of vanilla bean, hints of brown sugar & chai, I knew at this point I had something special for an upcoming breeding project. By using our main male “The Dude”, Vanilla Tart was born.


Vanilla Tart is a hybrid cross of Cookies & Cream x Space Queen. She is a heavy resin producer with flavors of vanilla, brown sugar & cherries. Most phenotypes have better structure than your average Cookie crosses. There are a small percentage of females that get taller than the rest. All around killer flavor, this cross is excellent for making concentrates

Phenotypes: Taller than average stretch with only minimal side branching. Rock hard round flower clusters cover the plant. Expect some Cookie Dominant females to be spectacular.
