i am very impressed with ur cfl grow well done m8
Thanks.. It is very ghetto.. I run it very inefficiently.. I mean I just toss lights at it.. almost 300 watt cfl just scattered.. but inefficiency at this level only runs me about 7 bucks a month.. so it's no big deal.

It is an 18 inch by 2 foot space.. bow I have opened it up to 3 foot so I can sun my next round in the day with the girls.

Very very ghetto.. but it get's the job done.

All the talk of LST, I do have one wild child sativa I had to finally set free.. she has no business in there, but she is damn determined to make it her home.. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/b10.jpg

I've never done any formal experimentation, because as a person with no small scientific and engineering background, I realize I don't have the space or the time or the desire to do all that work establishing control groups, precisely measuring everything everywhere to eliminate variation between test batches, etc. Anyone who has failed to take the time to do all these things themselves, has no scientific basis upon which to make any claims.

My training leads me to profoundly doubt any and all claims that contend that this or that disfiguring and mutilating method improves yields. Generally speaking, that which disfigures or mutilates in nature results only in reductions. A person might pinch off half the buds on his tomato plant in order to get ten large, perfect tomatoes. But that reduces the yield of tomato.

I can see how those with tiny little grow spaces might do some laborious training, like LST or SCROG out of necessity. Or pinch to control height, etc. I'm highly skeptical that would result in improved yields based on weight in a controlled scientific experiment, however. I certainly reject the notion that anyone gets an 85% yield increase, as has been claimed. That claim simply defies common sense.

I think maybe some people just have a lot of time on their hands, or perhaps a different relationship with their crops then I do. What I want is not a hobby to bury myself in, all I'm doing is growing one other thing in addition to everything else I grow, like carrots, lettuce, tomato, squash, etc. None of my plants are getting my undivided attention lol, or *that* much effort! I just want the products :)

So for me, if I found that I could only spare two cubic feet for pot, I wouldn't grow it. I'd find a new place with an extra bedroom, or a remote place for outdoors cultivation. Then it would go like this....lotta light, 3 gal pots, seeds, water...water...water.. ... ... ... harvest.

As for the "Special Grow Mighty God Bloom 2000" for $137 a pint, all I can say is bwahahahahaah!

That stuff is the same as every other batch of overpriced accessories that springs up anytime anything becomes a widespread fad. Today, pot is in "fad phase" amongst them English, and now we have the snake-oil folks looking to get rich off it.

You can purchase everything you actually need, at Home Depot, and get change back from a $20.

The spots on the leaves are from ph issues.. that main leaf is an original leaf.. I mean you are looking at a 3.5 month old main leaf.. one of the first the plant ever had.. it should be dead.. *L*

Once I got the PH issues corrected all was well, but I couldn't reverse the damage..

As for other lights, like I say, at this level I am fine with being inefficient..

I have about 22,000 collective lumens floating around.. I like the individual lights because since I dont use reflectors they overlap and spread quite evenly, yet I can focus them around as needed. Thing about T-5 is it is extremely consistent in it's output, but you can't isolate and focus on areas using just that setup.

Well.. truth is I am a cheapskate.. my lighting system cost me about 20 bucks as I stole some of my ol ladies ol lamps and converted them into drop cords, used cfl's I already had sitting around.. bought one here, bought one there.. very easy on the wallet.. *L*

But I really do like being able to concentrate on areas, and being able to actually put two or three lights around a series of buds, so each bud is surrounded by light just half inch to two inches away..

For me, I like digging in and just screwing around.. every day.. so it works.. for someone else it might be a nightmare.

I don't even know if I could squeeze 22,000 lumens (collective) of T5 into my 18 inch by 2 ft space.. certainly would cost more than the 20 bucks I spent.

i think your ready to moving up to next level 400 watt :))
I dunno..

I mean I would if my needs were not being met..

I need about an ounce a month (less actually.. I don't socialize with it.. I live in the woods in Montana, I don't even know anyone who partakes in this area)..

My setup easily put's out 2.5 to 3 of oz's of dried konas, every 2.5 to 3 months (I have my veg ready to go into flower as soon as these girls hurry up). Which is exactly what I need.

With a 400 watt, or even a 150, I would have to worry about heat issues (as it is I run a 3 inch fan off to the side to blow air for airs sake, it doesn't do much) that I don't have to worry about here.. (again, imagine a 400 watt in a 18 inch by 2 foot space.. sunglasses?).

I started with CFL's to get things started, and never went back.. for my needs, and my environment, I think the CFL's are working just perfect..

That said there is little margin of room for error.. I haven't had that happen yet.. I have had to go occasionally pick up a quarter or something to get me through the last few days of a cure before.. still, it is like insurance.. it is there if I had no other choice.. *L*

End of story.
I should think it's the "end of story" for everyone....including yourself...in this, or any other, thread on this topic. Since nobody here, despite their claims, has constructed an experiment then everything claimed is purely speculative.

What remains to the story is that which we can deduce logically from observation of related endeavors. Or, the remainder of my post. Which you have conveniently truncated :)

Anyone can make claims.

Got some too add...please do! bongsmilie

You see, I was operating from your invitation above. I hadn't gathered that you'd invited others to opine so that you could treat them with trite smugness.

I also love how HererBorealis challenged me to get some info on topping, and once I did simply left lmfaooo
I didnt go anywhere first of all, just been collecting info...

Furthermore, I'd like you to explain how i "belittled" your opinion... I simply asked you to provide me with an arguement that was well founded, and that you did, Ive looked over the links you provided, as well as my own info sources, and have concluded that topping does have its uses (as I had before), however in that regard, we are all just saying the same thing.

I hadn't meant for you to feel insulted, I like to debate things, and maybe sometimes get carried away, or seem cold and uninviting, but this is not my intention and I apologize :)

I hope we all keep getting along, and certainly get back to the topic of dispelling growing myths!

Nobody here experiments as much as I do, I currently have a topped and untopped GDP growing side by side in a grow that is also comparing two different nutes and a defoiliation comparrison as well with one of my own strains, yes I'm a breeder as well :)

This may be true.. but I claim dibs on the guy who has done the most STUPID experiments...

I'm always fooling.. I've done silly things like watered plants with soda pop.. foliar fed them milk.. grown in just standing water.. etc etc..

back in the early days of home microwaves, I used to put a living plant in mine and hit defrost for a few seconds.. every day.. just to see what would happen.. (pity, I have no memory of how that one turned out, just that I did it.. you know.. microwaves were magic back then.. I wanted to see what would happen.. *L*)

So ya, I want to lay claim as the guy who has done the stupidest things that everyone knows you shouldn't do, but does anyway.. usually knowing the results will end up being quite negative..

Ya, one of my many..

Here is where I am as we speak.. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/guitar22.jpg I've instruments strewn through out the house (two pianos int he living room.. *L*) My youngest boys room is where most of the Strats live..

All these instruments is why I grow in an 18 inch spot.. *L*.. my lovely bride of 30 years has put up with me in stellar fashion.

If you get bored come visit some of my home grown tunes.. http://soundclick.com/333maxwell .. if you don't like one song, move along.. everything from pop, rock, blues, jazz, acid, classical, country. even some tango stuff done in there.. most played real time on traditional instruments.. it's a bit of a 'hobby' of mine.. *G*

Thanks for asking~!

In fact if you like Strats, I just put this lil Squire together with a WW2 bomber motif.. Semour DUncan single space humbuckers int he neck and middle, and a sustainiac sustainer system/active pickup in the bridge.. a 200 dollar guitar with about 500 bucks worth of hardware.. that's how I roll.. *L*... cheap ass guitar I invest in..

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/Strat2.jpg
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/2-1.jpg

The Sustainiac dictated I installed a computer chip, and 17 additional wires into a standard Strat cavity..
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/strat.jpg

If you like that kind of stuff..

Well first of all I have done topped and untopped many of times. Second off so have all the people on those links, and our good friend riddleme. Third off your the only one with smugness coming to this thread with NOTHING to back up anything your saying belittleing everyone here. And you still have no proof. If this is what your going to contribute on this forum I sugges to go to blulight. That's basically the official online forum troll cave so you can have fun makeing rash decisons and belittleing each other there.

I apoligise. Your a true gentleman and I must've simply misread what you said. Atleast we can agree to disagree.

That's a heck of a lot of power indeed..

Your talking to a guy who's played stadium venues with a mic'd blues jr.. *G*

Biggest gear these days is a 1200 watt Yamaha sitting in the closet.. except for occasional 'real' studio and an occasional benefit or what have you, everything I do these days is in the box over can's.

I'm completely deaf in my right ear.. I am still trying to hang on to my left a bit longer.. ;-)

Didn't really need to wiki Floyd though.. I've installed dozens over the years..

These days every trem unit I use is standard.. I wished I had of kept a Floyd for the Sustaniac project.. but I always blocked my Floyds from pulling up (a broken string on stage (for example) in the middle of a bit often has folks realizing floaters can be compromised for a bit more stability) anyway.

-prepares for the next controversey-

"LST dosent give you a higher yield, how could 'mutilating' you plant give you a higer yield" - Bullshit! If done right LSt is the same thing as SCROG almost and gives you almost the same resultys. I'm doing it now.

333maxwell

I've never heard anyone say LST doesn't give you higher yield (although they may.. I just never heard it yet.. I don't get out a lot)

But it COULD be argued LST takes longer time.. it takes longer to get a plant trained than not.. I don't know how that equation works out.

I just snapped these a few minutes ago.. pulled em out of the closet and put them in direct sunlight for probably the first time ever to take the shots.. not sure if that was a good thing.. I could almost hear them scream when I put them back in my 18 inch by 2 ft space..

Not a GREAT example.. but it was my first real go at LST..

http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/E2.jpg

And the Sativa.. she refused to be tied down.. but she was tied down short as the other one up until about 3 weeks ago when I released her and she never looked back. She HATES the litle space.. but that is her lot in life..
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb258/333maxwell/E3.jpg

Again, not really very good examples of yield or LST.. but I know a lot better this next round that is going in when these come out.

LST is da bomb for lil guy growers like me.. I never imagined growing fully mature plants with ripe fruit under 15 inches tall when I was a kid and was first dinking around.. back then, we all dreamed of getting our hands on a 'street light'.. *L* man o man how times have changed.. the invention of the CFL was the greatest invention for a cat like me..
