The Manzanita Patch

Welp, ICmag used to be my go-to spot to post my grow logs and to share with other outdoor cultivators. I felt like the outdoor growing threads had a really solid community, sad to see it as a ghost town now. It seems since the ICmag "facelift" nobody uses the forums there anymore. They got rid of the friend system, they really kinda botched their whole community with that overhaul. Though often times I feel like writing out these grow diaries are sometimes just as much for me as it is for all the people I want to share/show the process with. So I'll start continue my grow logs from there to here.

A little growers history for my timeline: from 2010 to 2018 I ran a Black Cherry Soda hybrid from the bay area called "Cream" that ended up being such a damn crowd pleaser that I mothered/re-mothered clones of her for almost a decade. Everyone loved it, everyone wanted to buy it.

And during these times I had a buyer who was taking 5-10-15lbs of this cream like they where free hotcakes. When I first started growing my original endeavor was, "I don't wana pay these ridiculous prices for this plant I love smoking and enjoying." Then about 2-3 years in I realized how much extra bud I was getting and the product was good enough to sell with ease, so I started monocropping the Cream strain with quantity and selling in mind. By 2019 the clones where so genetically diminished that in some cases I would have random plants reveg, hermie, or be incredibly stunted in plant size no matter how much I vegged them.

Around 2018-2019 my buyer who would take 5-10lbs at a time was no longer taking weight like that, and I was pretty fucking tired of smoking this hybrid for almost a decade. So in 2019 I open pollinated my stunted cream plants with a Kandy Kush Male, and then ran the seeds in 2020. The Cream x Kandy Kush seeds where fucking genetic power houses. 8/16 where female, and the 8 females where all magnificent, each in their own phenotypical archetype. After only 3 months of veg most of them ended up in the 10-12ft range with an average of 2 lbs dried harvest. And that's leaving a ton of popcorn and smaller bud on the plants that I was just not able to harvest in time because I'm solo harvesting/trimming/hanging/bagging. I only went for the big nugs and still ended up with way more than I can smoke in a year.

After seeing the genetic reminder of what a new generation of f1 seeds can provide, I was reminded to go back and just grow what I want not with profit in mind. I'm now growing with quality and preference in mind for my own smoking needs rather than cultivating heavy #'s for some $$.

If you are interested in seeing my gardens progression over the years, and if you are interested in seeing that cream strain get hybridized and grown into giant monsters:

2021 - Manzanita Patch

I have long been a fan of Tom Hill's Strains, his Pine Tar Kush, Deep Chunk, Cripple Creek, and xmas 79bud filtered through Shasta County and blew away our little stoner circle. Ever since then I have been mildly hunting his genetics and strains. In 2016 I got to run a Trainwreck x Salmon Creek Big Bud cross called Caboose. And when I saw PTK up for grabs on Nspecta's site in 2020 I JUMPED all over the opportunity. When I ordered the seeds I asked Caleb if he had any hidden stock of Tom's Deep Chunk and he hooked me up with a 2016 reproduction of Tom's 2003 DC stock.

I picked up the following in the fall of 2020 from CSI Humboldt:
Pine Tar Kush - Regular seeds
Deep Chunk - Regular seeds
Living Dead Girl - Fem
Lemon Party - Fem
As well as a couple freebie packs

All in All I ended up sprouting the following:
4x Deep Chunk (unknown sex)
4x Pine Tar Kush (unknown sex)
2x Purple Indica Fallen Soldier (feminized)
3x Lemon Party S1 (feminized)
1x Lemon Party Fallen Soldier (feminized)
3x Living Dead Girl (feminized)

I lost two Pine Tar Kush plants, and a single Deep Chunk plant due to extreme heat and too much chicken shit top dressing about a week after transplant. Everything else took and started to blast off in their 65 gallon pots. Going to post some older photos to catch the dairy up to date. (I will label the plants in the photos on my next post where I show what they currently look like)

Lemon Party #1 Indica dominate in leaf/plant structure, smells like lemons/citrus in veg.

Lemon Party #2
Lemon Party #2.jpg
Lemon Party #3 This little guy in the bottom left has been stunted from the start, not sure why/how but i kept her. Last couple of times i had a runt/stunted plant like this it ended up putting on more frost than imaginable.
Lemon Party #3.jpg
Lemon Party Fallen Soldier - Thing smells straight up like lemonhead candy, I can smell it from like 15 ft away too, and its only in veg.....
Im wondering if the mystery cultivar of this hybrid is a Bubba Kush lemon phenotype.... Caleb mentions it a few times in podcasts. That or its the Lemon Party S1 traits that are shining through from the original potent cut found in the 50 Lemon Tree x Lemon Tree's he popped.
Lemon Party Fallen Soldier.jpg
Purple Indica Fallen Soldier - The PIFS plant is in the bottom left pot of the photo. Smells a little like grape so far.

Pine Tar Kush

Deep Chunk 1 - These deep chunk plants are funky. Huge stocks, huge fan leaves, short plants that wont bush out, even after topping them they stay in their Christmas tree form. I am book pressing a few fan leaves that came from these DC's they are so ridiculously big... way bigger than a large dinner plate.

Do users on this site prefer Attached images or embedded photos? I know most people use these forums via their cellphones so it might be a little taxing on the bandwidth usage.

Deep Chunk 2-3 - Doubled up on this pot because of room/space and they where regular seeds, chance of a male getting ripped played into double potting up as well. But even then, last year some of my 12ft tall monsters didn't even utilize the entire 65 gallon pot... sooo I think there is room lol.

Since transplant I may have picked up a slight addiction lol. I've been going through Nspecta's lineup and selecting some stunners to purchase. I always think I have all I want until I hit that store page again lol. I also got some goodies from Founding Fathers. I couldn't resist their Wedding Cake x Obama Kush and their Do-Si-Dos x Obama Kush offerings. OH I also picked up Key Lime Kush from Katsu seeds.

This will be next years line up for the outdoor season... I'm not even done with this season and I am drooling over next year already lol.
I think I am going to run 12 or 14 pots with the following 1 of each and maybe a few freebie pack beans like the Sherbet extra's I got.

Wedding Cake x Obama Kush
Do-si-Dos x Obama Kush
Bubblegum x Obama Kush
Zkittlez x Obama Kush
Zkittles x Lemon Party
Zkittles x Purple Urkle
T-1000 (Purple Urkle x Triangle Kush)
Triangle Kush 5150 x Purple Urkle
Patient Zero (Pakastani Purple Kush x Purple Urlkle)
Patient Zero x Trainwreck
Living Dead Girl (Patient Zero x Girl Scout Cookies)
Mendo Purple S1
Key Lime Kush (Pre98 Bubba x Key Lime Pie)

As you can see... there is a slight theme to next years garden lol....The purples are going to be insane... I can't wait.

I also have plans on making some hybrids of my own in the tent this winter. I have Pine Tar Kush, Pakistani Chitral Kush, and Deep Chunk regular seeds to look for males. I'm going to aim for a Purple/Fruity PCK or PTK male to cross with a potent female Lemon Party. I will also look for some green males and throw it's pollen at some T1000 females, apparently everything the T1000 touches is great! My two favorite color profiles on plants have been PCK and Black Cherry Soda hybrids, just stunning purples.

Welcome to bush country lol. Fun fact: Manzanita and cannabis have the same heat retention when it comes to temperatures. They synergize very well in terms of temperature regulation. A pilot told me he had a hard time spotting grows at night in manzanita because they use FLIR camera's and the heat signature is identical to Manzanita.

Here is an updated list of the girls I got at my fingertips:
Bank 2.jpg
Bold outlines are selections that will be getting a 70 gallon pot for 2022's outdoor run.
I am aiming for 2-3 months of veg to stack on some serious plant growth.

Very nice. I love deep chunk.
Back in the early 2000's there was a DC chocolate phenotype circling around Shasta County. Taking a hit was like drinking hot chocolate. I hope to dig that trait out eventually, and then maybe cross it with a Bubba Kush S1 to get a better producing structure. Because whatever Deep Chunk is on its own is just a straight up funk master lol.

That would be great if you could. I love dabbing it. Sweet chocolate hits
