The Main-Lining Thread

Has anyone seen a list of the best variety to use for mainlining?
I have seen some pics of plants that looked good using this method and have seen some that did not look like they took to training well.

Thanks,

GR

I'd be a big list bro lol
My indi dom's taken well to it after the initial abuse. After following the thread for a good few months i'd say most stains are cool. Main cola dominance is something to aim at think

Ace of Spades fruity pebbles pheno seems to do pretty well! I am hoping the cooler weather will bring out the colors in these girls:

The Mulanje is still a mess I need to sort out:

The MuMo Bubblegum is not stretching very far for a pure Sativa:

Mulanje #2 is just starting to flower:

Ok, so just for shats and goggles.... I have run mainlining on 3 plants of the same genetic clone. I run 1 plant under 1- 400w hps with a 12x 24x36" veg cabinet containing 2 26w cfls in the corner of my 2.5x7x 8ft room, flowering is done in a 2.5x2.5 area, and in the last 8 months I ran these clones one at a time. the first from seed (dna freebie cannalope kush)it reached 24" high, produced 84(3oz) grams in 60 days, 216 g of wet trim that produced 6 grams of damn fine hash, .21 g per watt. The clone from that plant was rooted and vegged in the cabinet during flower and moved out under the 400w for 2 weeks before it was flowered. 60 days flowering, reaching 34" giving me 3.5 oz (98g) with 56g of trim producing 1 gram of hash about .25g per watt. The next clone from the previous clone reached 36" yielded 5.3 oz (150g) with 50 g of trim dried. I have not run the trims yet. about .37g per watt. No real point to this post other than to express that for personal use 1 mainligned plant was able to produce 12 months of medication for my wife and I in an 8 month period, at 1 oz per month or 1/4 per week. I am doing one more run with this plant just to cover the first few months of the new year and when they are done in November I am going on vacation. When I get back I will run 5 quick 4 cola space bombs pick my pheno and see how that performs in my garden.

Latest results, I grew three plants in the same conditions from three clones of the same plant.

I did a pure mainline on one, and topped/trained the other two but allowed the couple nodes under the top to grow out as well. I kind of lost momentum with trimming and maintaining once they were topped/mainlined so I did not trim undergrowth at the end of veg or into flower, and all of these plants also had quite a lot of sparse flowering undergrowth.

The heaviest producer was not the pure mainline, but one with branches from lower nodes as well. Interestingly, all main branches on this one became very even. Lower branches grew out to the same length as the upper ones and had even bud development. All main stalks on this one had longer, fuller buds. After harvest, pulling the roots out, it also had the best root mass.

So, really inconclusive why the root mass was better, I suspect the yeild results had more to do with rooting than the topping technique. Just thought I'd share the info though.

Wait for your 2 new Mains to grow a couple nodes then top them and tie them down, once they respond with growth top them and tie them down

Bud,

Cannabis is a weed, but be careful when bending, I have learned the hard way and snapped off a few of shoots in the process.

But if that happens just continue on, you can still have plants with 4, 5, 6, or 7 shoots.

Good luck on your grow,

Peace out,

This shit is no different than an good circular LST early in veg. Tons of mains that stay nice and even and the apical meristem can be chopped at the end. I wonder how many thousands of grows that this technique ruined because it was a strain that didn't tolerate all the stress and stunting.

You don't know what you're talking about. Have you ever heard of espalier???

Hi y'all,

Well lots has happened since last week, they canceled my surgery due to low heart beat. That sucked they got me ready in pre op but they checked my blood pressure and heart rate and it was 28. I know this is a false reading because I have and extra heart beat but they rolled me into the hospital right away, spent the day there before they decided to cancel.

Well got home on Friday 9/20 and did some light pruning and tying.

20130920_172840.jpg Q2

Sunday 9/22, pruned both plants in prep for going 12/12 as soon as my filter and fan show up.
After pruning, did a lite fert, 750 ppm Bloom and Cal/Mag, pH adjusted to 6.77
So here are the pics as they stand this morning. I know with all the crap these plants have withstood I will be lucky if they are Ladies, but if they are they are trained for the mainline.

20130922_111907.jpg Q2

Now just giving them a little grow time and get them ready for flower.

20130922_131840.jpg Q2 after trimming the middle cluster last night.

Even with all the problems I have had with this grow I am still a big fan of mainlining, and I can't wait to start all over doing it right this time. Still trying to decide on strain for next grow. I have some White Widow, some Ace of Spades and some Eldorado from Nirvana Seed. Have seen the Eldorado grow and I think it may be to large for my cabinet. My buddy in NM is doing a mainline of the Eldorado this winter so I will watch him closely.

Peace out,

GR

Ahh.....L'esprit de l'espalier!
.

I think lst and mainlining are both good examples of this ancient training technique... If I had the time I would try a restricted growth outdoor plant training them horizontally a foot of the ground cutting each resulting vertical branch above it's first node creating hundreds of smaller buds. Would be a real bitch to trim but probably produce plenty of sugar trim
