The Main-Lining Thread

You just do some bending on the fast growers to slow them down. I have tried some HST methods and the plant just keeps on truckin'!

Been a few days since last update w/pics.

All is well, just in the wait and see mode. They are drinking 8 cups of H20 + nutes every two days.

Getting fragrant and frosty. I really waited to late on switching to 12/12, but live and learn. I though I waited to to short of time for my last grow. LOL

Looks great. It takes a while to get different strains dialed in. I have broken off so many tips trying to train branches.

When do you guys think I should main-line?

I let them get a good foot, or foot and a half, and then I trim them back to the second node. Each strain is different so I just wait until I have good secondary growth on the second node branches and then I top it without defoliating. The side branching (new tops should start to explode with growth and get branches. Wait until those are fairly big and then top them and repeat until you have the number of mains you want. At this point you can cut away some more of the leaves and it will look just like a Nugbuckets Mainliner :) It takes a few tries to get it right. Be patient!

What size canopy do you get using 5-7 gallon pots? Would it be possible to make the cage a bit smaller/taller and tie the colas to that giving you more of a bouquet look or would that cause issue?

I have been wanting to perfect something like that, but have not yet.

I am reminded of SS's "SWOG" == Screen Way Of Ground

Good luck,

JD

Mainlining gives you 8, 16, 32, 64... main colas without any popcorn larf or you can trim a pound of larf.

Is there a recommended pot size depending on the number of colas you go for? For example if you want 64 I am guessing you can't use a 5 gallon pot.

With 3 gallons smart pots I have bonzaï cannabis plants.
If I use 5 gallons ones, i'll have to wait a bit more before launching to 12/12 but with benefit of big plants after stretching phase.

I can surely do up to ML-16 in bonzaï mode.

I'm with a 400watt hps only, on a meter square.

From my first trials, 8 is easy to obtain and manage.
16 requires a lot of care and focus... for equal colas

consider room, height and viability with your own setup.

just my two cents

So, you go 8 colas in 3 gallon pots?

Do you use super soil? If so, do you find that you have to add nutrients as the plant grows and depletes what is available?

I have read that when using super soil you want to make sure you have an appropriate sized pot to keep this from happening.
