Sweet skunk is jarred and curing and some guerilla glue auto on the go
Yeah ill give it another trim, it was a bit of a pain dry trimming with the scissors sticking up, I can see why people wet trimI would trim a more off but I guess personal taste.
Going to clean up veg a bit later
Fair play man! How'd the first smoke go?Sweet skunk is jarred and curing and some guerilla glue auto on the go
Not bad, still has a bit of a grassy smell, I've had big problems with humidity and bud rot this year. Guerilla glue drying at the moment so I'll see how that goes. The royal AK is most definitely in flower now.Fair play man! How'd the first smoke go?
It seems a lot of us outdoor growers were hit bad with bud rot this year, I lost a lot to it, one it sets in its hard to stop it, a fan or airflow helps but it's normally around the top cola were you get it, especially at the back of the buds near the main stalk, so you don't really see it until it spreads. This summer has been a disaster with rain and humidity, I normally chop them and try save what I can.Greetings folks, long time listener, first time caller here.
I was wondering if I could ask for advice as I’m a first time grower, apologies in advance if it’s a bit long winded!
So....I planted 3 ‘Black Lights’ Auto seeds from SensiSeeds on the 21st of May. I built a cold frame green house mounted on wheels so I could move it around in the sun to maximise light. Two of them shot up while ‘The Runt’ was a lot slower. I only really gave them tomato feed and watched their growth. The two big girls were doing great, by mid August I’d guess they were about 2 weeks from harvest with nice (but not massive) buds. But disaster struck when I went away for two nights and came back to find the top 70% of the 2 plants were destroyed with mould so I chopped it and threw away 4 ounces of wet bud. Heartbroken and panicking I chopped the still good un matured bud down and dried it. It’s been curing for 2 weeks and I’ve had a cheeky smoke and it’s nice enough. I realised very quickly after I’d chopped it that I should have left what was on the plants to see if they did ok. Anyway, lesson learnt.
I then installed a fan on the side of my grow box to see if The Runt would mature (she’s currently 16 weeks old so very slow!) Low and behold she’s doing great, still very small at only 60cm but sure, such is life. She’s been very slowly budding for 5-6 weeks now. Trichomes are still fairly clear and the pistils are turning more orange and the buds are fattening up. I reckon she’s a couple of weeks away. Only issue is I’m seeing spots of mould as the buds are fattening. I’m cutting them out at the cost of some of the top buds and to be honest, I’m ready to take her outside and box the head off her because the whole experience over the last months has been quite difficult, it’s been very educational and I know so much more now for next years grow but I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to do with her. For the past few weeks I’ve been leaving her outside all day and taking her in at night (it’s driving my wife mad because the house bangs of weed when we come down in the morning!) and this morning I found what looks to be the beginning of mould in the fat buds. Anyway, any insight would be great and thanks in advance!!
Here’s some photos of the 2 good ‘uns followed by their rot along with their house and finally The Runt which I’d lollipopped and supercropped and the mould I found in her this morning.
Cheers for getting back to me Santiago! So do you reckon I should just chop the whole plant down now and dry it before any more sets in? They seemed to be very small spots this time and do you think that if I cut out the small spots in the top affected colas I can still smoke the rest of said colas? Thanks again, greatly appreciated! I wouldn't just yet, it's only a small bit. I've read if you cut off the infected bit and apply isopropyl alcohol to the cut part, don't know how true this is, as long as the remaining buds don't have mould on them they should be OK, though it can still spread while drying, if you have a small fan going in your drying area but not blowing directly on your plants it helps. I think it's mostly weather dependent, rain and humidity, I haven't grown for years but back then I might just get one small spot that was fixed by cutting it out, I had some lovely healthy plants this year that had to be chopped early because of it. The humidity seems to be dropping a bit the last few weeks so fingers crossed. There's a strain called Freisian dew that's supposed to be very mould resistantCheers for getting back to me Santiago! ps is this something that hits crops every year? It really has been a terrible summer and it has me researching hardier mould resistant strains for next year but I was just wondering if it’s something to try and prepare for every year!!
That’s deadly man, thanks heaps! I check on it every night when I take it in with a magnifying glass and I’ll look into the isopropyl thing too as I have some in the press and if it does start to spread I’ll chop her down. I’ll look up that Freudian too. Great advice thanks again!I wouldn't just yet, it's only a small bit. No worries man, it's an absolute ball ache when you put a lot of time into your plants, they look and smell great and then you notice a grey, fuzzy mould on one of the buds. I had to chop 4 this year a bit early because of it, I'm just hoping the last ones will be OK, they're photo periodsThat’s deadly man, thanks heaps! Ball ache is right but I’ve definitely learnt a lot. If I was living on land away from prying eyes I’d have a nice greenhouse with plenty growing on it. I lived in Australia for 6 years and I had a few friends who grew photo periods.
