The Importance of Voting

My fellow citizens (especially the one's I seem to be continuously arguing with.)

I ask you only this. Before you go to the polls, and cast your votes. Really think about the candidates. Think about the values they seem to espouse, think about the values they would bring to the presidency.

I'm not going to argue that one set of values is better, or not better. I am sure that the candidates have their own opinions, and have their own beliefs.

But, are their beliefs truly ours?

Do their beliefs really espouse what we believe?

Do they show the tolerance of speech that we have always been told is necessary in a just and free society?

Do they show the compassion that we expect from our fellow man?

Do they consistently display the kind of morals that we would want to see in office?

What about their friends, and associates? Would we want to hang out with them, or their friends?

It is often said that you can judge a person by their friends.

Do their friends espouse the idea that everyone is created equally, that has been the key tenant of our nation since it was first founded? (Even if it was nearly 90 years before slavery would be abolished.)

If their friends, and their associates do not espouse the ideals of the nation, how can we trust these politicians?

To neglect the effect your friends have on your behavior is to ignore the truth. Your friends have a great effect on your attitudes, and your philosophy. Just as your parents, and your teachers have an effect on your attitudes.

I want everyone to think about what they would want for themselves. Not for other people, but for themselves.

What kind of person would you want in the presidency?

What kind of policies would you see as benefiting you for president?

I want everyone to really think about the history of our nation, and really think about what ideology has been successful, and what ideology has consistently failed.

Not to provide for all members of society, no ideology will ever do that.

Socialism, Capitalism, Communism, Theologism, Technocracy, no society will ever achieve that "perfect" society. It is Impossible. Perfection is not attainable, because there is always room for improvement.

Pure socialism was tried in Russia and it failed to provide needed goods and services.

Pure capitalism only existed from 1776 - 1913/1914.
Socialist Capitalism has ran our country from 1933 - now, and still runs our country (witness the bail outs, and the massive redistribution of wealthy that is going to take place under the bail out packages)

Really think about how you would see your tax dollars spent (or if you would want them to be spent at all.)

Step outside of all the Media BS and all the Myths about no 3rd party candidate having a chance to win.

Don't vote for the person that is the most eloquent. I'm sure the Wall Street bankers were pretty Eloquent too, and we saw what kind of people they were.

Don't vote for the person that everyone else is screaming for.

Really examine what they are saying, and really think about the policies, and then think about the effects of those policies.

Think about the effects that more credits will have on people with families, but think of how people that are single, or are unmarried are not going to benefit.

Think about the effects of the attempts to stabilize housing prices by bailing out people that are in danger of defaulting, and think about the fairness of those policies to people who were renting.

Think about the housing prices, and really ask yourselves, is this really "affordable" housing?

Think about the state of our society, and think about what paths lead to its present condition.

Think about what you would like to achieve, and then think about the effects the policies that candidates are espousing would have on those goals.

Think about your dreams, and your hopes, and ask yourself what policies are going to bring those closer to you, and what are going to push them further away.

Think about, not what you can do for your country, or your country can do for you, or any one else. Think about what you can do for yourself, and how the policies are going to effect that.

Think beyond the debates, and the media campaigns, and really, really ask yourself, "What is best for the country? Who is the best candidate for this country? Who will serve to defend our country, and serve to maintain its sovereignty, and its independence?"

In the end, if we fall to the media campaigns, and the attack ads, and the attempts to discredit, insult, and belittle the different candidates we are failing to examine what is most important about the candidates.

The actual ideals they are pushing, the actual ideology they are pushing, and the policies they are likely to make, and how those will effect the United States.

All I ask, is that you don't limit yourself to the two main candidates.

"A society that would trade freedom for a bit of security, will neither have security, nor freedom." - Benjamin Franklin (More or Less).

Well spoken - that's why I'm not voting. Check this out - everyone says I should, but I say no one should because everyone I talked to that is says they are going for the lesser of two evils. Why chose the lesser when you can chose neither. Everyone wants a revolution a real change? Simple. In this day & age you can't march the streets in mass numbers they'll arrest you, but what everyone could do is not show up to vote or go to vote in mass numbers & tell them you won't pick. Something will then have to be done to resolve the situation. That's all it takes. I don't want to save America because it dosen't deserve it. I really can't believe everyone walks around waving their flag or whatever proud of a country that is founded completly off of corruption from the very start. I mean the settlers came over here killed tons of indians, took the land & said this is ours. They then gave small pieces of land called reserves to the indians out of sympathy - WTF is that? I care about all my fellow earthlings(all living things) but America could crash&burn for all I care. I say fuck voting.......I don't want to play their little game & I surely don't need them to take care of me.

TBT ...

That was an excellent post. In reading it over, it appears that Ron Paul is the person who should be elected to the presidency. The choice, if Ron Paul were still in the running, and had a chance to win, is a no brainer.

Dfunk ...

By not voting and just sitting on the sidelines, you are, in effect, allowing not the least of two evils to win, but allowing the most evil to win. In reading TBT's post, its clear to me that John McCain is the clear choice. No, McCain isn't the perfect choice ... far from it, but with O'Bama in the presidency, with a filibuster-proof senate, we will be thrust down that Road to Serfdom at a pace the country has never seen before. This is dangerous stuff. If nothing else, think of the Supreme Court nominees coming up during the next four to eight years.

Get yourself to the polling place lad ... do your civic duty. We, your fellow citizens, are counting on you! :)

Don't suppose you've been reading Farah have you?

Vi - I understand your viewpoint, but I feel as though voting in not in my best interest. Taking care of myself, my family, my friends, & respecting all living things is what I'm all about. I just don't feel voting is healthy - it's really uncivilized actually. We can't just care about each other, help each out, not be savages, we need to be governed, need police & rules etc. etc. I'm just babbling, but this is how I feel. If you want to know how I feel about politics & voting in general...check out George Carlins clips on youtube about those two subjects. He had a way with words.
TBT - I'm not sure who Farrah is, but I'm always ready to learn.

If you don't know who he is, you probably haven't read his book. It's interesting because it says something along the lines of 2008 being the best opportunity to take a stance, and write in, "NONE OF THE ABOVE" on the ballot. (Of course the problem is that it might cause bloodshed when both Republicans and Democrats attack each other over who gets to count it as a vote for them.)

.......and therein lies the problem. People really think their vote is important. Do this for me...Don't vote & I guarntee a new president would take office anyway. Do people really think this is still a republic & that their opinion matters?

It really dosen't matter anymore. Here is what will happen...Barack Obama will be the next president of the U.S. - after this the next four years will be spent pushing the world into a global community. The enviroment will become a huge issue in the public eye & there very well may be a catastrophic event wiping out millions of people to help push the issue. In 2012 the world will be much different & there is nothing anyone can do to stop that.

It is simple, vote. It matters not who you vote for as long as it is an informed choice. Ross Perot fucked George H. W. Bush square in the ass in 1992. Ralph Nader did the same to Al Gore in 2000. Third parties are spoilers in our two party system. Use that power and fuck some worthless politico in the ass.
In this day & age you can't march the streets in mass numbers they'll arrest you,
Not true. The right to free assembly is in the Constitution. That does not mean breaking store windows and punching police horses in the mouth. It means peaceful assembly. See the First Amendment.
but what everyone could do is not show up to vote or go to vote in mass numbers & tell them you won't pick. Something will then have to be done to resolve the situation. That's all it takes.
All that does is concentrate the vote of people who choose to exercise their freedom to vote. People do not vote in droves already. Look at local run-off elections. This election should be an exception to the rule.

History is replete with injustice. The Native Americans got fucked, it's true. Now they have casino gambling. BTW, they were fucking each other over long before the Spaniards arrived in the Americas, only without horses. Pretty brutal stuff.

America is well on its way to crashing and burning already. One candidate gets us there a little faster than the other. That's all.

Until the revolution comes we must work within the system as it is.

Hey Johnny how are you? I totally understand where your coming from, but hear me out. I wouldn't want to screw anyone just because somehow I would feel like I'm stooping to their level & it will probably come back to haunt me. I understand that the constitution says you have the right to free assembly, but I 've seen those gatherings turn into police escorted events since 2001. The constitution is being taken advantage of in my opinion.

No, Dfunk, that poor piece of parchment has been ripped and shredded and infested with cancer, rot, and disease until it resembles something so loathsome that the founders are probably shaking their heads at our stupidity, and laughing their asses off with thoughts of saying, "We told you so," when we all get to wherever they went, whether it is Heaven, Hell, or some deep dark corner of some great giant universal machine.

 I disagree. I think it's far more civilized than dictatorship, because we will always be governed, whether we choose that governance or not. I'd rather have a hand in the choosing.
