The good and the bad...

The good news is my girlfriend has at long last given me a cupboard to try my first grow!

The bad news is she kinda knows what's involved and aint too happy about electric bills etc! She also aint allowing me to cut holes in walls for air etc. So I'm hoping someone can help me out!

I am only planning 2-3 plants, so would a 250w light be suitable instead of the 400w? Do you notice a great increase in bills/costs?

Also what are my options for air supply? I can have a fan as this is simply a plug in job. But what about extraction etc? 'exhaust fan' as it is called in the above link. Is it pointless without it? Are there other options? I have no idea what else can be done?

You can grow a decent crop with a 250, but your lighting should really be decided based on your grow space dimensions. They don't cost much to run (can't give you exact figures as prices vary from one supplier to the next, plus I live in the UK). If you find out how much you pay for electric per kilowatt/hour, you can work out the cost from there.

As for air, I would say it is essential. Not only do you need to remove the heat from your lights, but you also need to provide the plants with fresh, co2 rich air, and remove the stale co2 depleted air..

One more thing to consider is the smell. If you need to be stealthy you definately need good extraction, combined with a carbon filter.

the electric bill will only rup up a few bucks no biggie there..You do need fresh air coming in and other air goin out.. For the light this is a great deal and you will get GREAT results.. use the MH for veg and HPS for flower and your plants will be tight and dank and you cant beat the price...

Cheers for the replies guys. I'm thinking the girls cupboard aint suitable any more as I can't work out suitable air supply etc.

So since it's my first attempt, how about a PC grow box? Anyone any views on these? I'm thinking this could be put inside the cupboard discreetly and would have all the fans etc needed without cutting into the girls walls?

Are these actually any good though? Can decent weed be grown using these PC boxes?

You can grow some potent weed in a PC grow box, but in my opinion the yield will not be worth the time spent growing it.

If you can't cut holes into the cupboard, your best option would probably be to build a box that fits inside it. You can then fit fans etc into your box, and leave the cupboard door open slightly so the fans can do their job. It's not ideal, but it will work, and will save you damaging the cupboard itself.
