Well the problem with that is if you'd have to acknowledge that people have fundamental rights not granted by the government and that can't be taken away, but we can't have that... deep down when it comes to it the masses don't like real liberty and not only that will give up their own freedom so that they can feel good about themselves taking someone else's freedom away that they don't agree with. This goes for a lot more than weed. There is no reason for a government to be the protector of liberty when half its citizens seek to take away freedoms from the other side (and vice versa). In the end we get the government we deserve unfortunately. As I regularly tell my friend who votes for the system, "I blame you!"
