How often do you have one growing much taller than the others from the very beginning, and have it turn out in the end to be female? Anyone?

My experience is that the fast starters are often male. Not always but often. If you have a strong fast one, that is when you need to clone and make an army of them. If she is strong and fast and shows preflower it's go time on the cloning to save that genetics.

I'm asking because my tallest and fastest plant is showing the worst reaction to overfeeding, so I may lose it. I'm not planning on cloning this round. If all goes well, I'll invest in seeds and tackle cloning at the end of next grow. With some hope, that is.

Sometimes in the case of the big ones they have enough power on their own genetics to get really pissed off if you try to help. Don;t jusdge the readyness by the biggeest and best, judge it from what developement most of the plants are at.

I have 4-5 plants that are a week ahead of the other group and I'm nursing them along with some mild foliar spray ( 1/8th strength GH grow and a small drop of superthrive with regular misting). They rewarded me with nute burn! LOL! Now they get foliar every other day! That was the plant talking to me.

I'm using 18 gallon Rubbermaid containers for my DWC system. I'm going to veg for 8 weeks before flowering. About how many plants can I grow in each container?

what is you light set up? vegging for 8 weeks is alot of veg time, creating larger plants...you're looking at a 4' tall finished plant at the least...so you'll need to have sufficient lighting...IMO I'd go with 6 plant sites...3" netpots...
