"For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters so a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods." (Exodus 34:14-16)

"And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died." "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. "And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, WHICH WAS, AND IS , AND IS TO COME." (Revelation 4:6-8)

Deuteronomy, Chapter 17:2-3,5
"If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant, And hath gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; ... Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die."

^^^this last one in short is saying "kill non-believers"

God orders Moses to kill every Midianite woman who was no longer a virgin. (many of these women would obviously have been pregnant)(Numbers 31:15-18)

The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open.(Hosea 13:16)

“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear. Deuteronomy 21:18-21

I find the bible to be highly contradictory and full of hate too, but isn't this more of a SS&P post?

More likely a pedophile if you want to poke fun at him. "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them...". :p

The parts about women being forbidden from teaching men probably wouldn't be there.
It isn't because women aren't capable of teaching, it is because many men are incapable of learning from a women, she is therefore ineffective, though through no fault of her own.

You can read the bible and find what you are looking for.

If you seek out to find contradiction, it will become evident to you therein.

If, however, you read it, and inform your reading with the theology that learned men throughout history have added to better interpret the bible, the contradictions will disappear and become clear.

The hillbilly christianists are the fundamentalists who preach literal interpretation. This is not how the bible has ever been viewed in the past, not even with the zeal of the medieval crusades were scripture taken literally.

The biggest mistake made in talking about the bible is to think of it as one book, it is not, it is many books, and two entirely different stories.

There is the dichotomy of the new and old testaments, then those are further divided up into parts and subparts. Many people set out to read the bible like it were a novel.

Each passage is informed by all other passages. And one verse alone has little meaning.

I spent more than a few years reading the bible. Context is not lost on me. I shall show you the context in 1 Timothy chapter 2: I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

It's not about men not listening to women. It is in fact because Eve was the one who caused the fall in genesis; therefore, women should not teach because they are clearly easily deceived. It's about the inferiority of women from a biblical perspective.
