This is all guitar. No Bass ect. Nobody before, of since has created an electric orchestra like this. This is a glimpse into what Jimi had planned for the future. And consider it was recorded almost 55 years ago. I think it was recorded in 68-69. But wasnt released until 1971. Same for Hear My Train a comin. Both were released in 71 on the album Rainbow Bridge.

Hes on the record as saying he was going to come out with a "New Music", and it was going to be influenced by Johan Straus, and Richard Wagner. @ different styles of classical music. He said he wanted to do an album based on these styles, and then get a 20 piece guitar band, and go on tour. He also had plans to play with Miles Davis. And Miles was a Pallbearer at Jimis funeral.
But behind the basic structure of the song, theres a WAR going on. It would be extremely interesting to see this done live, with 20 guitar players.

Here's one I'm sure you're familiar with and have probably already posted, given your familiarity/nym and knowledge of BOEL:

While this version is good, you can certainly tell Jack Casady from the Airplane is not on bass as he was in the original studio version. :o

My guess is 90% of the audience and 100% of the musicians were under the influence of Tim and Nic's two five, you will know what everybody else called that.

Actually Jack was on the Studio Version of Voodoo Chile, off of Electric Ladyland. Its a slow blues. Also has Steve Winwood on Keys.

The one above is a live version of Voodoo Child ( Slight Return ) from Rainbow Bridge. The studio version of Slight Return is also on Electric Ladyland.

I saw the Movie Rainbow Bridge when it came out in 1971. I went with 2 friends. We were doing Phencyclidine.

We saw it at the Camelot Theatre in Huntington Wv at the Midnight Movies.

Guess you didn't get the BOEL reference/connection... I'm exceedingly familiar with Hendrix/Casady/etc. and what they did together.

zBear and I used to have frequently conversations on Usenet about BOEL.

By the way, liquid LSD was never available in KY from 65 to 73, _especially_ in Eastern KY. It wasn't even available in Lull vull. :o ... that should tell where I'm from.

My brother-in-law was a pipefitter in Louisville with local 502/522 and he was _exceedingly_ familiar with LSD/two-five distribution in KY from the Outlaws via the HA, because of the extensive work in distribution he did when he worked at Ashland Oil. _Many_ of the Outlaws were pipefitters.

Liquid two five was never available in Kentucky in that time frame, not sure what you did when you were a kid, but it most assuredly was not liquid two five.

I get the BOEL connection.

And it could be, some in E Ky, had relatives, and friends in California. My 2nd cousin moved to California, in 1942. Had children. What was available where, depends on who you know. We also had Owsley acid here with the Owl stamped on it. It was the White variety.
In 1972, at Cascade Caves in Carter County Ky, they had a folk festival. It started in 1970. In 72, 100 HA came in from Frisco, and brought all kinds of stuff to sell. There were 50,000 people atthis festival, and 10 cops, and lasted 3 days. This went on from 70-76, when they moved it to Grayson Lake, also in Carter county, and it turned into a bust. After about 3 years they moved it back to Cascade Caverns, and is now in Sept, instead of May. Its not like it used to be though.
Also had a buddy who was born in Cali, and moved to Ky in 1971, and frequently got stuff through the mail from his friends in San Fran.

I also had an older friend who was a musician, and opened for James Gang, and several other top bands in the late 60s, and early 70s, and he too, had access to all kinds of stuff. The band had the same manager as John Sebastian.
Believe it or not, we even had DOM/STP here, in East Ky. I only saw it one time though. I did it at the 71 Cascade Mountain Heritage Folk Festival. Shit lasted almost 3 days. One buddy did some, and had a bad trip, and ended up at Eastern State Mental Hospital, in Richmond Ky for 6 months. It took him 30 years to get over it. I found him passed away last Oct 30. He was 74. But we had more than you think we did. At least some of us did.
