The best soil for seedlings?

Hello, fellow growers. I'm interested in what you all think is the best soil for seedlings... and I'm talking about raw soil which is bagged and sold in stores like Wal-Mart, Home Depot or Lowe's. I'm not interested in what you mix in it after you buy it.

I've been using Hyponex soil for seedlings because it doesn't come with time released nutes. It barely has any at all as far as I knew. My seedlings have grown really good in it until now. They seem to get nute burn from it now. I need a soil that contains the least amount of nutrients. So what do you think is the best soil for babies?

for my soil base i use "cedar grove" potting soil.
it's an organic soil with worm castings added.
over all it seems to be a fairly neutral soil and has never given me any trouble.
it can be had at lowes

I use ProMix Organic, works wonders for me. You get it thru your local greenhouses so you'll have to call around.

Your seedlings probably aren't getting nute burn from your soil, especially since you said it didn't contain any, probably what is happening is the seedling have used up all the nutrients in your soil and now are starving for food.

I'll have to dig up some information since soil is a common question but their is also a soil that is sold at Walmart that produces great results, although I have not used it, I've read over and over about success with it.

In reality any soil that doesn't contain nutes and is the right PH should do the job because you should be adding nutes of your own after a few weeks.

By "seedlings" I mean only a few days old. A few days after germination, the round leaves turn yellow and die off and then the next leaves start showing burn on the tips. Then they also turn all yellow, then brown and crispy.

i use miracale grow with moisture control and it didnt burn my babies one bit there now in there 2nd week of flowering and looking great :mrgreen:

you can get the MG seed starter, has little nutes in it since they dont stay long in that mix. Only like 3-5days or so.

mystery i got your back with the FoxFarm light warrior its potting soil! happy frog isnt to bad either, all organic and foxfarm makes it just acouple less dollars. find it at any local organic shop!
