Noma, located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Voted 3 years in a row by Restaurant (magazine) as the worlds best restaurant, 2010, 2011 & 2012.

After reading a few reviews, lunch and drinks for two can exceed $300 (Danish currency)!

Here are some pictures of the food they offer, mainly Nordic and northern European cuisine;

So of course an opinion on this food without having tasted it first wouldn't be very informed, but I don't understand how people can charge so much or why people would actually pay so much for something like this, especially when you can pay a fraction of the price and get something like this;

I'm definitely in for the last six. I dislike the trend of grading restaurant cuisine on presentation. My oral cavity doesn't give a rodent's haunch how it looked before I molarized it ... cn

ceterum censeo Top-level food critics should be selected from a pool of the blind.

As a chef in a fine dining estab i can tell you exactly why that food costs so much. I will use the first dish as an example( now try as i could i could not find the pic or a description but i will use my culinary knowledge to try and guess) From the loos of it is is a Pan Roasted breast of duck with some type of currant sauce, the white puddle looks like what would be a truffle foam with a medly of squash and wild mushrooms.

1) Food Cost (food isnt cheap especially high quality ingredients
2) Labor (the amount of prep for this dish is pretty high and difficult
3) Complexity (I count 9 seperate components) When dealing with a complex dishes it takes much more time to plate and prepare
4) probably the most important (clientel (sp?) when you have a resturant and you want michilin stars or zagat ratings you cater to those types of clients. I cannot think of one single mom and pop place that serves fried chicken and chili that has the awards this place does. They have their places and i love small mom and pop places. This place only wants the high class high paying people to dine here. Evening gowns etc..... So that is why IMO this place costs so much.

It's like the Danes live in another world, man. they're little country is so peaceful and fucking beautiful, food is amazing. They have a little enclave within a town that has no law enforcement, and no one fucks around! They have the best restaurant in the world, which means they have some of the best cooks too. The women are beautiful.

it's like all the rich people scattered around Europe decided to unite and fuck off up north to settle into a Utopia.

The cost of these restaurants are worth it to the people that enjoy them. I enjoy fine dining, but I don't think the dishes being served at this restaurant are something I could stomach. Some of it may just be psychological, such as if someone handed me a dish with a fish sticking straight threw what looks like a doughnut hole I would probably ask the waiter what part of that shit am I supposed to eat? It's just not something I'm accustomed to.

But I have been to restaurants that cost $50+ per dish and I have had some of my best food there. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing if the restaurant runs its own farm and ranch for their vegetables and meat, and contracts local bakeries for quality breads. The best way I can describe it is that I feel more full after eating one fresh carrot than a bag of previously frozen carrots. The quality of the food is something my body picks up on.

I also appreciate a nice presantation. At home it doesn't matter so much, I like things to be neat and clean but I don't stress over my plating.

Price doesn't always indicate quality tho. I drove over an hour to what was supposed to be a high-end Italian restaurant that was in a pretty rich part of town. Worst meal ever. I found out that it was good for a while, but when I went there it was under different management who did not give a fuck what their kitchen staff did. It was expensive as shit, and not worth it. Little did I know that their is a small Italian place 2 mins from my house that is half the price and is owned by a family that takes a lot of pride in their food. Sometimes the gems are hidden amongst the dirt.
