The Best N-P-K

I'm not saying what the major manufacturers are doing is right or cost effective but their rational or argument is "sure you can get the basics from the other guys but our system is like theirs only on steroids."

Humans can get basic nutrition from proper eating to get big and strong but we can also supplement with newer technology like steroids, blood packing, supplements, and other methods that give some super human strength and size (not without some weird side effects though) just ask Barry Bonds.

My question is are we just getting the basics from these "cheap" nutes and are there plant additives that should/could be added for bigger "Barry Bonds" buds then the basics give?

YGB
This is exactly the point and the answer is no. Humans get all they need from food assuming their diet is not super bad. Supplements are largely a waste of money in most cases. And you can not put steroids into the same category.

Plants, like humans have basic nutritional needs. Sure, the manufacturers would like you to believe they product contains plant steroids or other magic formula but they don't.

Manufacturers of weed specific nuets are mostly taking advantage of the popular fallacy that everything that is more expensive is better.

Chances are, these are fly by night companies that are just copying the ingredients of standard fertilizers using the cheapest stuff they can buy and putting it in a fancy bottles.

Sounds plausible. I'm trying Jack's Classic for Orchids (30-10-10) as a veg nute. I'm trying 1000 ppm to see what happens.

I did add a bit of silica and a root zone additive.

i agree with rick. i compare the fertilizer scene to the exercise supplement scene. If you look at a magazine of muscle fitness, muscle development, flex or whatever other mags on weight lifting are out these days you will see all sorts of advertisements for supplements that 'you cant go without'. that will bulk you up shred you up etc etc... I bought into it at one point, then finally realized it was a big waste of money and a well balanced diet was key. I've used the gh maxi series with success and am now about to switch over to jacks grow and bloom. When I pick out my mom plants i'll do a thread that compares dry gh to dry fox farms to dry jacks all used on the same clones.

Just joined into the conversation. This might be a easy question, I'm new and will most likely be using Dyna-gro and Im wondering how often i should be feeding my plants. Im guessing not every time I water. Or does the package have instructions for time?

There is really too much talk about products. You need to focus on ALl the factors that make a plant tick, and understand basic plant nutrition. If your favorite bottle is not providing what cannabis needs, then find one that will.

If you need a feeding chart and someone to tell you what to do (which NEVER works), then you shouldn't be growing.....you simply do not understand what makes a plant tick. Until you do, you'll be jumping around trying every gimmick, rocket fuel, and forum "new technique" out there trying to make it work.

Dyna-Gro gives amounts for continuous feed or occasional use if this is your question. Plants do best with moderate amounts of salts fed to them continuously, depending on their REQUIREMENTS. You will have to learn what that threshold requirement is whether it's temps, lumens, water, elements, etc.

Oh yeah I understand, an answer is still an answer though. I would be flying into it blind if it weren't for this site and others like it.

Your posts have helped me a lot so I really owe a lot to you. The first jay will be dedicated to you :)

Update:

The Dyna-Grow Foliage-Pro is totaly kicking ass. Plants in soil less are outperforming the last run in DWC using Ionic. These girls are booming.

Hey Rick, I'm running DG Foliage Pro in an Ebb and Grow system too. Switched over from Lucas formula after reading a bunch of Uncle Ben posts and my plants are thriving. Are you planning on switching to something different for flowering or running the Dyna Grow through the whole grow?

How good is the 10-30-10+Mg that is sold in 50lb bags for $33 at the agricultural wholesaler that supply the commercial farmers?

Got a link to an analysis? Price sounds good. Commercial farmers aren't going to waste their money on typical foods though if it's what I think it is. Now, if it's totally soluble and meant for drip lines, nurseries and such, you're fine. You don't want a food designed for turf.

When you start to get your head around nutrients, you will work out the best values to be using... probably why most experienced growers tend to make their own :hump:

I have a super friend that actually makes nutrients for a living and supplies me with a single part veg nutrient that totally smashes any product I have ever used (and there has been a few), and it works terrific for me so I'm ecstatic

NPK value of 20-8-18 with some stabilizers for PH and Calcium and it costs me the about the same price as milk :blsmoke:

It is important to experiment with nutrients and not just use "the pretty ones" as it's surprising how many "cheapo" nutes do an amazing job for a fraction of the price.

Choosing nutes by their quality and values and not by their glitzy labels has always worked for me

Salts are salts, labels are labels. Most members choose the latter. "Cannabis specific" vendors or "manufacturers" play on that FACT.

Glad to hear it, what EC are you running? I've ben sticking around 1.

For bloom I go with the bloom formula.

I recently started using Dyna-Gro on my soilless plants. The Foliage Pro rocks!

Hey Rick, when do you transition from Foliage Pro to the Bloom formula?:weed:
