The Best Day to Die?

When Confederate General and Religious Fanatic Stonewall Jackson was lying fatally wounded he asked what day it was.
When he was told it was a Sunday he answered:
"Good. I always wanted to die on a Sunday".

One of his junior officers described Gen. Jackson as:
"An officer who would kill a man at the drop of a hat - and, sometimes, he'd drop the hat".

To our modern standards a person who could believe in the institution of slavery AND consider themselves a devout Christian seems contradictory.
But the Bible contains no prohibition, or even disapproval, regarding slavery.
In fact many Bible verses are seen as advocating slavery (and genocide and torture and rape).

If you could choose which day you would die, which day would it be???
....and why?

Was he the same general who rode with a lemon peel in his mouth, and his left arm raised, because he said it "kept the blood balanced"?

Fuck the bible.... The bible is nothing but a conglomeration of writers that had their books chosen or chapters within them, and we're included as "gods word", in another book by a bunch of guys ordered by a king in ancient times to make 1 book, that would use the word of god to subjugate every person on earth to it. And turn those that didn't believe into "lesser beings" based upon some fucked up fantasy that god gives a fuck about you.... Or me!

Many folks believe that the Koran is just an extension of the bible.... I personally believe that they were all written by man to make one man a subject to another, while. Installing the psychological fear of the wrath of god in them..

King Henry, the pope, and every frickin Imam on the planet that claims they know the will of God.

A person can believe what they want..its the cool thing about being a American..You also can voice those beliefs..another cool thing about being a American.
A few historical facts on Christianity.
Christianity brought the world out of the dark ages. Before people were illiterate and barbarous toward one another.Rape and murder.starvation where the order of the day.
Christianity spread literacy through out the world. It is what taught the world to read and civilized the worlds actions.
Christianity promoted trade around the world and prospered the world as a whole.
Most of the founders where Christian or believed in a higher power of some sort. They knew they were only human and did not know all.
You said you have read their writings. How often to you hear them mention god or lord of whatever higher power the particular founder happened to believe in.Lots hu?
How many of our founders where also preachers?Indeed preachers led in the revolution..many of them actually.
Society was based on those little church's spread all across the country side through out the colony's.
Where the founders stupid or weak minded because they believed in God?I cant come to that assumption from reading their writings myself.
Actually they were visionary's who were very brilliant.
Kings before the spread of Christianity did not like it a bit. Before that they were God.After Christianity it put some sort of limitations on their ruthless butchery and theft.
If you believe in God or not i can recognize that a smart man may not believe in God..you should also know and recognize a smart man might believe in god also.
After witnessing many things that can only be described as miracles, and reading of many accounts through out history that can only be described as miracles with the only explanation being the hand of God at work i believe.
Example would be this country and George Washington. He should have been dead a thousand times. There is no logical reason he was not killed..a thousand times,But he didnt die.
This country should have never existed and the founders should have never defeated the Britts.
You can call it skill..or dumb luck,8 years of lucky is allot of luck and skill.
Not to mention the writing of the constitution,Extremely difficult.

I hate to say it but it wasn't religion that brought us out,it was science.... The cure for the plague... Running around praying for god to save us from the plague got a lot of people killed... And it was folks branded Heretics for not believing that kept science from finding a cure for it for so LNG to begin with......
To claim that It brought us out of the dark ages when most everyone was forced to believe or face torture and the wrath of believers is placing to great a roll on the effect religion had on the advancement out of the dark ages.

in MY opinion. =)

A FEW FACTS ABOUT YOUR MADE UP HISTORICAL FACTS

ONE -Actually the Dark Ages STARTED less than a century after the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as its Official Faith.
TWO - The Analects of Confucius, The Ancient Greek Enlightenment and many other cultural and intellectual highs preceded the Bible.

DO YU RELIGIOUS GUYS ACCEPT ANYTHING THAT AN ORDAINED MINISTER OR PRIEST TELLS YOU???
YOU CERTAINLY TRY TO GET OTHERS TO SWALLOW THE CRAP YOU BELIEVE.

NONE OF YOUR HISTORICAL FACTS WERE EVEN FACTS.

Why mention the Koran or Torah ???
On a site with so few Muslims or Jews it would feel like a Klan meeting

"Let's all talk about those rag headed Moslims - whilst they're not here to defend themselves".

YOU IDIOT CHRISTIANS ARE HERE
AND WHEN YOU TRY TO DEFEND YOURSELVES YOU ALWAYS ATTEMPT TO SOUND INFORMED
WHICH USUALLY RESULTS IN ME GETTING A REAL LAUGH OUT OF IT.

"CHRISTIANITY ENDED THE DARK AGES"....!!!
Read a history book and educate yourself to the reality of the situation
Not the supernatural dream.

Exactly what Sect of "Christianity" persecuted those scientists? Catholic.. and why?.. they feared anyone learning something they themselves did not teach to their congregation including the Bible itself..

Other "Christian" religions are just as bad... west boro claims to be Christian as well.. while spreading hate..?

Gioua, Bingo! I believe in god, just not what MAN writes about, GOD. Folks miss out on gods great creation spending to much time trying to out Christian each other.

i also believe this is why the Republican Party is such a failure. They spend to much time trying to out Christian AND out Coservative one another.. Instead of trying to unite.

I feel the Bible itself was a very well written historical and spiritual document inspired by the Holy Spirit written by man.. I feel MAN has taken their own personal scriptural passages and made their own personal beliefs based on 1-2 lines of scripture.. for example John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

this line alone leads many to think.. ok all I have to do is Believe that Jesus is our Savior and your good to go... which is only a small portion of the truth..

I firmly believe if you are Christian you must also be a Berean (defined as one who accepts the word with willingness but searches the scriptures daily)

this is about as religious as I am going to get on this site.. and I am NOT posting this to debate it.. I know what I believe and what is written and I have been given the ability to understand at this point.

have a Great Sunday!

True Christians do not go around with pride and a powerful mindset.. they are humble and forgiven.. far cry from any political part on either side, when campaign season starts even the "Most Christian" parties are out for blood.
