The Bag Seed Experiment

That's pretty cool 420guy I actually was thinking whether or not two CFLs would be good enough for clones because I got some really nice new tops that are growing and most of them have 4 nodes or more already so theyd make awesome clones. Plus now that I know that they are female it could be a good idea but I think I'm going to wait till I get some seed bank seeds instead. Who knows..

Easiest way to set up CFLs (at least, this is what i did):

Goto a hardware store and buy one of those vanity light fixtures (you know, its the lights above the mirror in your bathroom) There's a cheap one I got with three sockets, its only $10

Get 3 socket splitters and 6 CFLs

Get a cheap extension cord

Cut the end of the extension cord off and strip the wires, attaching them to the wires on the vanity light (cover this with electrical tape to prevent fire/shock)

Find some thick string or something similar and attach it to the vanity light (I got "yo-yo"s (reflector hangers) and tied these through the holes in the back of the fixture)

Tie up the fixture, plug in the socket splitters and the bulbs and plug the other end of the extension cord (which now powers your lights) into a wall socket.

You now have a simple yet very effective 6-light fixture for your plants that plugs right into an ordinary outlet. Total cost (not including the bulbs) is probably around $15
I read through the thread, and when you connect the ground as far as wrapping it around the casing do i just electrical tape the copper to the case itself. I am a little bit confused on that part.

i have the 3 bar vanity light, although my extention cable has a green wire where the female end was cut off. I know green is the ground, but where do i connect it to the vanity. The vanity unit itself only has the black and white wires. Any help would be appricated i can post pics if required

Hey shineon2008,

I have the same fixture and you can tape off the end of the ground wire and just let it hang in there that's what I did and it worked fine because there is already a power and ground that you connect to the power and ground of the extension cord or lamp cord.

The reason it's there is incase the power cord that you attatch to it doesn't have a ground wire in which case you could ground that spare wire to the casing somewhere (there should be a screw with a sticker on the outside of the top of the casing saying "ground wire do not remove" or something). This makes it so anything past that ground circuit will be powered which in this case is the vanity fixture so it works perfect.

whats up wush, plants are looking goodsh.. ahem
just so you know its not power and ground. its hot(white), neutral(black), ground(green) but he is right for these fixtures they don't NEED to be grounded. i have the ground capped with a wire nut and taped out of the way. if your light socket doesn't come with wires attached the silver nut is usually hot, and the brass nut is usually neutral. if you fuck up your power to the whole house will most likely go out for a second, so be careful.

Thanks! just was hesitant because you can never be to safe with electricity

white is neutral and black is hot. those colors should match up file with your fixture. the green ground wire can either be capped off/taped, or you might feel better about sticking it under a screw in the fixture to give the casing a ground.

Okay guys today I basically started to tie down some of the new tops that are growing because they've gotten really tall and just basically repositioned the plants so the opposing side that has been hidden underneath gets some light. BOTH of the plants are female for sure now and have white haired pistils forming on the nodes so I am very happy and lucky to say the least.

The plant outside seems to be starting to preflower but I can't tell what sex it is just yet, i'll update on that as soon as I know but for now if you want to see how big of a difference the outdoors made for this plant go back and check the last photo of PLANT ONE and then look at it now. This was the plant that was refusing to seperate the nodes and now it looks beautiful.

Here is my current garden

Plant one - Day 40 (Outdoors)

Plant two - Day 40 (Flower - Day 11) FEMALE! :)

Plant three - Day 40 (Flower - Day 11) FEMALE! :)

Haze Crossbreeds - Day 17 (Vegging)

Overall shot of the tub:

white is a good color to hook to a light, but the black tastes better, so that one goes in your mouth.

any questions, just ask. there are electrical books at home depot and lowes too.

Today I went to walmart and purchased another 45 gallon tub to put on top of the existing one to give the plants more room. I untied them now and i'm going to let them stretch upwards and give them more breathing space.

I also purchased a six pack of 26watt 3000K CFLs that I am currently installing into the setup and I transplanted the Haze crossbreeds into bigger pots.

So currently my lighting setup now is eight 6500K CFLs and six 3000K CFLs for a total of 14 CFLs. The six CFLs will only be on during flowering which is right now for this crop but in the future I'll have them off during vegging of new plants.

I'll update with pictures when I finish.

i heard if you ground the wire to your ear drum it plays a nice melody before you smell your brain cooking.
