its "sorta" true.

sure if you are being totally literal, a computer is a a computer and an abacus is just a simple device to make calculations.

but.

a computer, is just a device to make calculations (just with a shitload more options)

so, yes, he´s talking truth

Wow. Still going on huh. To put another damper on the "first computer" being built by Turing and called the "bombe", Turing's "bombe" was an updated version of a code breaker made a year prior by the Polish called "bomba".

Edit: All being said, I think it's all coming down to what type of computer the op is talking about. Analog, mechanical, or digital. Of which even the "bombe" wasn't the first mechanical either.
