The almighty fan

Such a key part and I'm looking for opinions. I'm looking at these 2, uncertainwhich may be best for my situation. I'll be running a 600 watt cool hood with 6" ductiong that will be getting a carbon filter during flower. Has to be super quiet and still cool roughly 170 cubic feet, well. The area is warm now and once I get through this cfl/led stage that I'm playing with... its only gonna get hotter. And I can't stress super quiet enough. Thanks all

Unfortunately super quiet and inline fans don't go hand in hand without some work.

IMO the 400CFM would be the way to go but on full power they create quite a noise.

Some steps you can take are

Insulated ducting/acoustic ducting
Silencers
Speed controller
My favourite for hanging fans are bungee cords.
Also there are acoustic box fans.

IMO to have complete control if your temps with a 600w you need 400CFM of fan power. The SandD 150(6") is only 293 on its highest setting.

Although I've heard SandD are pretty quiet.

I currently use a 6" 300CFM SYSTEMAIR RVK. Its pretty quiet.

Jondamon is spot on. Def need around 400 cfm if heat is even a slight issue . I'm currently running a 600watt in a big kahuna vented hood .with a grow bright 6"424cfm fan Hung from tent with bungee cords .have can filter can33 hooked upfront then the hood then a 6" duct muffler also hung then exhausts thru my can filter can50 !! So freakin silent its bit even funny and no smell . All purchased from htgsupply. And I'm in a agromax large tent

This is what I'm running for ventillation I exhaust thru the can 50 just incase of air leaks in the gasketed hood can't trust this cheap Chinese shit lol .and u can only exhaust like 170cfm thru the can 33 can 50 can exhaust like 500 cfm or so and intake like 800 .

My trick for quiet cooling is a 6" MaxFan controlled by a variac. I've found the ideal breakeven between aaahhhhh and shhhh. cn

Is there a difference beetween this variac and a standard speed contrôler@ CN? I read alot of your posts in verdes concentrates u def know Ure shit . Not to creep out and ride your balls lol but you had sum good info .

A typical speed controller is a potentiometer (rheostat) and basically an adjustable resistor. Your combo is drawing full power and wasting the portion not sent to the fan.

A variable transformer is electrically efficient, and I've found it to be capable of finer and reproducible levels of control.
In my application, I've found the variac at "48" to be perfect.
