it took me a while but i've finally read through the entire thread. i have purchased an aerogarden and i plan on growing soon, but i still have a couple of remaining questions.

i plan enclosing the entire unit inside of a box lined with mylar. i will be vegetating and flowering with one single unit.

do i need some sort of ventilation to flow air in and out of the box?

if so, would i use fans, or air holes? do i need to worry about light escaping from the box?

thanks in advance! and thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread thus far.

Does anyone have an idea what the sex may be? Plants are ak-47 from Joey weed. I switched to FF Big Bloom yesterday. Prior to that was using (one starter tablet) the AG nutes. I may need better photos. Any feedback?
Thanks, Mike (O2)

Ok--In your opinion another six weeks to determine sex. In the meantime do I leave the lights on 18/6? I'm set to the herb setting to you reccomend changing to the lettuce setting?

Thanks, O2

6 weeks?!? Not with the AG, I don't think.

If you flower earlier from seed, although flowering time is genetic, the triggering of flowering (in regards to time taken) will be increased. So in reality you are adding time to your flowering schedule, which would have been much better served during veg'. Given the right amount of veg' time, a plant could show sex within the first 48 hours. Not the right amount of veg' time= Up to 6 weeks in extreme cases before the triggering of flowering. Adding (what could be) 6 weeks to your flowering time.

It's up to you though.

If you grow from clones this is a different ball game. You can flower after a paltry 5 days veg.

How much literage/gallons do these ag contraptions hold?

I have to respectfully disagree with skunk, because the Aerograden rapidly increaes all aspects of the growing cycle. As others in this thread have discovered, you can flower after 3 weeks from seed and will still be able to harvest in a total of 7-8 weeks. The AG holds 1 gallon of water. It would be great if Tek and others could comment on this.

As the ag only holds one gallon then the veg' time will also depend on how many plants you are growing. More plants will necessitate a shorter veg' time. I'm not saying this is good, as I believe a plant grown from seed needs to be allowed proper time to mature before initiating flower. It seems the case that the ag is only good for sog using clones due to it's very low volume and it's capacity for yield.

A plant will tell you when it is ready to flower. flowering too early from seed is asking for problems.

Well sorry for not posting in a while ... things have been a lil hectic. OK so I posted some new pics of the lil one, I am now 3 days into flowering with the AG and I am not 100% sure but pretty sure that this lil experiment turned out to be a girl! This plant apears to be a cross of some kind and since I live in Calgary... seed could be anything. I only planted one seed as I plan on moving this whole experiment(if succesful) into a huge fridge that I am adapting to grow inside. I have substituted the AG nutes for the fox farm nutes. First day on 12/12 with FF nutes this baby grew 2 inches! I still am trying to figure out how often to add 2 tblspoons of big bloom?? Is it every 2 weeks?? 2 tblspoons for 2 weeks seems a lil low but could someone please comment on this for me? Any ways I can see lil hairs starting too grow out but am still not getting my hopes up! If shes a girl Im gonna clone a bit and send back into Veg. I have a suspension system set up for the light now so I am not overly concerned with height. So far the AG has worked very well for me but this is just an experiment so I can figure out how to adapt this system into a fridge grow. As well I added 2 lil fans to the closet that the AG is in. One pulls fresh air from under the door... and the other blows directly on the plant so the stalk and leaves get stronger and keep the plant cool so you can get them closer to the lights. I added 2 Flourescent 1200 lumen soft lights to this setup for flowering to see how this all turns out. This one lil girl now has about 5400 lumens on her so I am hoping for the best!! Ill keep updated as I can. P.S. I forgot.. this lil girl was planted march 12 2007 . Peace :))

I traded my friend a half eight for one of these aerogarden.
I then received two plants that had been started in an aeroponics system
I have had them for about 2.5 weeks under 100w of floros and at the end of the month plant on switching the lights to 2 100w hps lights
I have had them under 12/12 lighting since I have had them and they are loving it up. the both showed their sex about a week after i got them. anyways thought i would drop in and register finally so that i can post some of my pics up soon

I just went & checked on my unit. The machine had turned off lights and timer for its 8 hours of darkness. I had it set to tomatoes and the pump was not operating. I switches it to lettuce & the pump began operating. I noted the pump would also start with the unit set to strawberries. The pump remained off on all other settings. I guess I will leave it on the lettuce setting.
Any comments?

Thanks, Mike

Wouldn't the StealthHydro Bubbleponics system with the upgraded Dual Spectrum II light be better overall than an Aerogarden for close to the same cost (especially when you factor in the cost of modding the Aerogarden and buying seed packs)? The Bubbleponics wouldn't require any modification, would have more light, room for more plants, no set plant height restriction, higher yield, etc?

Here is the link to the Bubbleponic system to compare: SH Hydroponics > Dual Spectrum Bubbleponic 6 Planter Complete Kit

Is there some reason why the AeroGarden would be better that I am overlooking?

I had already started with the aerogarden but I have to admit that Bubblephonic looks pretty awesome. If I had seen it first I probably would have started with it. It looks to have a lot more capacity.
I'm happy with the AG so far though. Plants, especially with the FF nutrients, seem to be thriving.

Maybe some Bubblephonic users will let us know how they are doing.

Peace, O2

If bubbleponics is the same as dwc then the main difference is in the level of the water. In dwc the roots are almost entirely submerged. In aero it is only the tips of the roots that sit in the solution.
