The Adventures of Lank

The Blue Barrel of Mash :dunce:
DSCF1987.jpg
its going crazy now, my whole house stinks like beer even though there is negative pressure in this room.
at this point it creates its own heat and the heater is never on (it has a little red Heating light on it) and on a hot day it would overheat if not for the fan pointed at the barrel.
it still tastes really sweet, meaning it has a few days to go yet.
WooHoo!!

-Lank

pretty stable daytime temp, never seen it higher then 28c and that was when it was 28c outside
DSCF1953.jpg
todays Vertical shot
DSCF2008.jpg
and some budshots, there starting to look really good now!
DSCF1954.jpgDSCF1965.jpgDSCF1991.jpgDSCF2005.jpgDSCF2021.jpgDSCF2027.jpg
and this is a dwarf Pomegranate that is another part-timer under the light
DSCF2033.jpgDSCF2040.jpg

watered then fed 4 of them today, rocking the MG 18-18-21 and Alaska Morbloom 0-10-10
1tsp/MG, and 2tsp/Morbloom per gallon after i lightly dampen them with straight water
ive started the next seeds already so these plants have a limited amount of time left under the 6
im gonna go get stoned and make some food ;-)
ill be back later :peace:
much love,

-Lank

i just ended up with this minimalistic setup, mostly due to cost but it has worked out really well especially with an odd number of plants
i would defiantly recommend it, and another thing i just cant get enough of is FABRIC POTS! there just so awesome! todays upgrade was some little 1x1" sticks to get the pots off the floor for circulation.
my dream for this room is a setup similar to what Hobbes was using years ago, with a raised air-floor.
basically im going to build a dummy floor about 1' above the current floor and have the fresh air intake into this little airspace and then drill the floor full of holes to get even airflow from the bottom up, constantly passing fresh air up across the bottom of the leaves then up and out.

I'm talking about the still AND das shrooms!
the shroomies grew SO FAST! it was something you could check on hour to hour and see new growth.
the site we used to get them (Zamnesia) dosent ship to canada anymore! we were devastated. still havent sourced more, and still have a sack of shroomies so im not too worried about it
but if you ever get access to pre innoculated blocks definetly buy them, just for the fun of it even.

the Blueberry Headband from emerald triangle popped her head up first, hopefully the rest follow suit :eyesmoke:
DSCF2048.jpg
and the barrel of mash has calmed down somewhat, the yeast is probably starting to run out of sugar by now and ill let it cool off in a few more days.
DSCF2049.jpg

Happy Tuesday Everyone!
:peace:

-Lank

so the stupid Blueberry Headband heaved up and out, pushing the root up instead of penetrating the nice soft Pro Mix. i tried to replant her but im pretty sure she be dead.
other then that all the Sour Spyder have popped! 6 out of 6, ill go take some pictures :weed:

-Lank

heres one of the Sour Spyder, they all look identical
DSCF2052.jpg
and here is the seedtray, 6 SS, 3 Lowrider, 1 Black Russian and 1 probably dead blueberry Headband
DSCF2054.jpg
hopefully a few more pop up today
-Lank

the mash is definetly done now, i unplugged the heater yesterday and just let it chill overnight to help settle out the dead yeast. got the worm filling up right now and im gonna do a run in a few minutes. ill show you guys exactly what i do, then you will have seen the whole process, from start to finish

Yay fresh shine! Iv had some here and there, it was delish! This guy had straight shine, and some infused with peaches, others with apples, very tasty all of them.... Got me well wasted lol

I appreciate you taking the time to post all this. What would you suggest is one of the better websites to go to for learning?

thanks for tagging along man, id have probably have gotten bored and forgottoen about this by now if no one else chimed in
im uploading a Show-and-Tell about my still, and it uses the standard `pot still` technology which hasnt changed in hundreds of years although here is a good intro of the 3 main different types of still
http://homedistiller.org/intro/types
this was really the only website i used to make my still, then i went to a small U-Brew and chatted with an owner there and she recommended the Turbo Yeast (the one i use in the pics of Part A) and a simple sugar wash because it is just so easy and i have stuck to that recipe ever since.
a friend bought a purpose built countertop unit from StillSpirits (he Rep`s them at his job at a uBrew so he got a discount) and it works but it is VERY SMALL and only good for personal use, which is all he wanted.
http://stillspirits.com/collections/stills/products/turbo-air-still

if you want the TRUE EXPERIENCE you gotta build your own though :hump:, theres nothing like running it the first time, being nervous as HELL and having no idea if its even gong to work, hahaaa.
ill be back in a few, i gotta check the still

Cool, I like building my own stuff anyways :-) Im taking the same approach to this (and the shrooms) as I do with growing,,,, read, read, read, plan, go over plan again, do it again and again, then hit the ground running. I like being prepared when Im trying something new.

Alright, here it is!
the complete Show and Tell!
this is the barrel of mash i posted a few pages ago, done fermenting.
and here is how i set the ol` Girl up

Rinse it all!
then, fill the pot PUT THE LID ON BEFORE CARRYING 20L OF SPILLY MASH. i place it gently on the burner because its heavy as f*ck

DSCF2058.jpgDSCF2059.jpgDSCF2067.jpg

pull the worm and errr'thing out of hiding ;-)
here is the worm and all its "ports"
DSCF2061.jpgDSCF2062.jpgDSCF2065.jpgDSCF2064.jpgDSCF2063.jpg

here is the "Thumper"
it is named so because of the noise a full size thumper makes, its kinda frightening the first time.
the Thumper is like a Bong. the inlet tube is just under the water and the outlet draws from the top of the pot.
when hot alcohol vapour gets passed thru cold water it condenses again, temporarily, making the end product 15-25% stronger.
DSCF2068.jpgDSCF2072.jpgDSCF2075.jpg

these are the parts i use to connect the Pot to the Thumper and the Thumper to the Worm
i use Electrical tape to seal em up :hump:

DSCF2076.jpgDSCF2070.jpgDSCF2078.jpgDSCF2081.jpgDSCF2071.jpgDSCF2082.jpgDSCF2083.jpg

note the homemade tape dispenser
DSCF2094.jpg

the Worm is submerged in a cold water "Jacket" (5-gal bucket) that has constant circulating water,
this is the drain hose
DSCF2084.jpgDSCF2085.jpg

this is the cold water inlet hose
DSCF2088.jpgDSCF2086.jpgDSCF2089.jpg

then i set the water flow to just a trickle which is all it needs because i have so much copper pipe coiled up in the bucket (10ft coil)
then max the big burner, and WAIT. about 1.5 hrs until the first drops come out.
DSCF2098.jpg

here she is, all set up.
DSCF2106.jpgDSCF2103.jpgDSCF2100.jpg

this is the first time i have ever done a complete Show and Tell of my creation, so feast your eyes!
it is heating up now and i will post up a pic once it starts dripping out
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERBODY!!!

-Lank

IT BEGINS!
this is how much streams out constantly once it is up to temp
DSCF2117.jpgDSCF2113.jpg

i discard the first cup just to be sure there is no methanol remaining
DSCF2114.jpg

then i put a jug under the spout
DSCF2118.jpg

heat bubbles rising from the worm
DSCF2116.jpg

later i will Carbon Filter it then jar it and im done!
Enjoy!

-Lank

Totally Rad setup. I don't drink anymore, but this is living large! Id be a mess if I had all this going on.
to tell you the truth i rarely drink, i dont find getting wasted all that fun.
not saying i dont have a few drinks sometimes, and sometimes a few to many but not as often as everyone seems to think ;-)
i definitely held my cup of coffee under the drip for a few seconds this morning
thanks for visiting!
