TGA Starter Question?

Finally got my OMMP grower card/certificate and will now be able to cultivate legally. I will be growing indoors in a 4x4 tent with either a 400 or 600 watt for flowering (still undecided). I have been on RIU for a little bit now, and after reading many threads I think I would like to try some TGA genetics with supersoil for my growing meduim, for my first attempt at growing. Seems like going with a supersoil medium with water and simple compost teas would be the best route for a newb. That being said, I was wondering if any of you TGA weed nerds have any suggestions for strains that would be appropriate for a first timer? I have alot of experience growing vegetables outside, but this will be my first run with cannabis. Any help/ideas/suggestions are extremely welcome. Thanks RIU members!

Vortex is a pretty easy grow. I would just go with w/e you like (sativa vs. indica). MJ isn't super hard to grow regardless of the strain. Pure sativa can be a bit crazy...

Like mentioned above, take your pick, you really can't ggo wrong. Your first couple runs will be a learning process anyway, so don't worry TOO much about what you choose.

GET THE 600 WATT HPS!!!!!! Can't stress that enough. It's a perfect fit for a 4x4 tent. I started out with A CFL grow in stacked Rubbermaid tubs, then bought a 400 for a roughly 3x3 space, then a 600 for a 4x4. Save yourself some time & money and just get the 600. You know you want to!!!

Yes I don't think i'll be attempting any pure sativas right off the bat, although some of the sativa strains that the Rev spotlighted in this last issue of skunk were mighty appealing! Vortex is one i've definitely been having my eye on though. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the info Spicy! Yea, I think i'll go ahead and go for the 600 watt. From what i've been able to gather the Secret Jardin DR120 would be perfect for a 600.

why don't you tell us what you are looking for for meds, and we can go from there....
Hi Nugs! Thanks for checking in on my little thread here. I was thinking that I would try to go for two strains at first. One for the daytime, so more of a sativa leaning cerebral/creative kind of effect. And then one for winding down/relaxing on the couch/night time smoke. For that I was leaning towards more of the indica leaning strains like Ace, Ripped Bubba, or possibly Querkle. So basically i'm just looking for a good daytime strain, and then the counter to that-a good demotivating/more body effect strain.

I was also planning on mainlining at least one female (when found) for my first attempt, so thanks for putting that sticky together for us, that's awesome!

Any health issues in particular you are trying to address?

For all day pain relief I recommend CheeseQuake, my current favorite TGA. JillyBean is an excellent anti-depressive all day smoke. TimeWreck for powerhouse and Vortex for strong sativa.

Thanks for the info Hovering, love your reports, you are definitely an inspiration for newbs like me. I really like the cheesequake, and may go with that as one of my first attempts, got to sample some from one of the portland clubs, as it was promoted to me as a pain reliever as well. Also what do you find the plushberry is best for, or is that strain more of a smoke for the flavor type of strain?

Thanks,

I would run the CheeseQuake if I were you. Good chance of getting an elevated CBD strain which is what I found (1.5%).

I love the Plushberry but would not recommend it for newer growers since it can get wild and benefits from strong training and pruning through its growth. Vortex and TimeWreck can be a bit of the same with needing extra "control". CheeseQuake would be the easier to start with imo.

Sounds like that's definitely one i'm gonna start with, thanks Hov!

Daytime I would say Apollo 13bx very good smoke uppity high.

For your nighttime meds I would look elsewhere, maybe MR Nice Ortega or God Bud by BC. The most indica you will find in TGA is going to be Deep Purple I started 5 of those last month, one self topped (it's growing 2 tops without being topped) another of those 5 is just looking very lack luster and horrible leaf formation, the other 3 are looking strong just waiting to be sexed.

i disagree....Qrazytrain, Space Dawg, Querkle, most Ace of Spades, ripped bubba, qush.......all heavy indica dominant.....my qrazytrain is like a Joe Frazier left hook to the jaw everytime....

yup plus indica dominance is not always needed for insomnia relief. my bloodwreck dominant chernobyl will knock you out any time of day. it all comes down to preference in the end, but TGA definitely has some good options for indicas and insomnia relief.

and of course tons of options for daytime sativas. the tga strains i've had with nice up sativa highs are vortex, jack the ripper, 3d, and jacks cleaners 2. if your looking for ease of growth, taste, smell, and functional day time smoke i would go with the 3d personally. it has incredible tropical fruit smells, is easy to grow with some phenos finishing very quickly, and it for me had a much more functional anxiety free high than the vortex.

Thanks for the info, Grojack. Mr. Nice seedbank is definitely one that I will be trying as well, just not right away. Got to sample some Mr. Nice quite a few times, and I think that will be a great night/couchlock indica to attempt when I get the chance. Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

Thanks for your input JD! I have been lucky enough to get to try 3D and Jack the Ripper, and I would really like to go for the Jack the Ripper at some point (one of my all time favorite smokes so far), though from what i've been able to gather I think I should get some experience under my belt before going for it. However, with 3D's shorter flowering time maybe that would be a better choice for a first attempt. Though I haven't been able to sample any vortex yet, so I am really leaning towards it as my first sativa growing experience, since it has a shorter flowering time as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and happy growing!

Hey Nugs! Yes, I would really like to try Space Dawg as well. The description of the flavor profile seems like it would be right up my alley. Have you been able to try that particular strain yet? And as always thanks for sharing your knowledge!

i let my patients choose what i run, i do have SD but my patients want Jilly, Void, and Chernobyl next....so not sure when i will get to SD.........they are also all about Vortex now, so she will always get a space in my scene from here on out as the sativa......QT is the hard hitting indica that they demand, so she also has a constant space....:leaf:....i will slowly try and replace those two as my leaders....but it is a tall order.....i believe those two would be keepers in anyones garden....

Our 1 gallon SpaceDawg testers are getting close to finish and they are displaying true TGA characteristics with massive resin output, yummy strong aroma and solid quality flowers. They even got a bit mistreated for a week and haven't shown any sign of stress, just keep on kicking it. I am really excited for the finish, it looks like we will have 2 distinct phenos to test from our 4 SpaceDawg. It was really hard not to bump them up early into our 10 gallon line up but I will be patient and wait for their finish...
